I was listening to the radio and I heard a mention about fundies being upset with Neil DeGrasse Tyson's The cosmos. I remember scratching my head over the Harry Potter outrage, and a few other movies the fundies were fussing about, but the cosmos? Really? What could be the issue?

Oklahoma Protesters Threaten to

The first protests against*Cosmos*in the community took place some two weeks ago, after a local paper claimed an airing of*Cosmos*in a school caused several children to experience ‘demonic possession’. * Parents cite one kid became completely enamored with the show during a terrifyingly supernatural event linked with Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s narrative explaining the “God of the Gaps” theory.

Several weeks ago,*citizens accused Tyson*of using his*Cosmos*program to forward other agendas, not limited to a ‘homogay’ agenda, wizardry/haroldry, astrology and other vehemently anti-Christian teachings.

Concerned parents have accused Neil DeGrasse Tyson of ‘Ra’ worship and iconography, going as far as saying the titular narrator may be involved in a Wiccan Sun occult.
Comments from "concerned" people.
"If we allow this Tyson to keep publicly airing his beliefs, God just may strike us down with a cosmic meteor this summer. *That would be ironic justice if you ask me, so we should just take this show off now before that happens.”
Accusations:
Cussing:
(In reference to this comment): " to be scientifically literate is to empower yourself to know when somebody else is full of Bull****[excrement]-Neil DeGrasse Tyson-

"Tyson cusses at our children and scares them into his beliefs. *The quote above is taken directly from Tyson’s lips. *Do we need ‘teachers’ cussing at our students to scare them into a radical belief system?"

Demonizing priests/pastors, The world's best educators:

The writers behind*Cosmos*love to hide the fact that*Christians and the early Catholic church are the foundation of modern science. *Gregor Mendel was a monk. *Christians invented the telescope, the concept of space-time, the airplane, X-rays, the modern semi-conductor. *Francis Bacon,Lord Kelvin*Galileo Galilei,*Isaac Newton, Leibniz,*Andre Marie Ampere,*Copernicus, Theodosius Dobzhansky,*Werner Heisenberg, all*devout Christians.

The greatest educators on Earth are Christians and pastors, so we does*Cosmos*always paint the Pope as the Disney villains of each episode?

Ra Worship:

On a starry night in a field gules, Neil DeGrasse Tyson hovers above the Earth and teaches the words of Ra to all who will listen. *Neil Tyson is a harold of Ra, poisoning the minds of the innocent with all sorts of ancient Egyptian curses and brainwashing. *Look at the icons on the vest of Tyson and we can see the makings of Wiccan occultism.

I don't even know where to begin. I can't believe people can be this stupid.

Understanding reality will cause the destruction of it? That's a bit frightening. These people are teaching do children to be idiots. Asking questions will doom us all. That's a convenient way of avoiding tough questions. It's also rather cowardly. Shows people are frightened of having to re adjust their beliefs.

Then we get to the accusations. He did cuss, so that's right. But I doubt it was in order to lead children to Satan.

Then we have the demonization of the church. Based on the history we know its pretty demonic. Ir used its power to control the thoughts of people for centuries under threat of guillotine.

Some of the best teachers were executed by the church.

Last there's the Ra worship. This is just absolutely nutty. Understanding physics isn't Ra worship. Even if it was it's his right. After all the first amendment gives us that right.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This is how you can tell it's nit about beliefs. These people are willing to sell theirs out just to shut somebody up they don't like.

Never before have I imagined that people could be this damn stupid in a modern country with decent education.

I hope they succeed. And once they do we should make laws forbidding Americans from mating with them.
