Can Christianity become dangerous when it mixes with dark sidedness?

This is clip from several years ago on the TV show "Wife Swap". I came across it again today and it made me wonder if Christianity can survive a changing culture.

The vid makes me wonder....about quantum theory.

Any belief system can become dangerous if followed to extremes (or by idiots, which the woman in the video above clearly appears to be).

You're missing the point of this thread. The lady in that video represents every Christian and clearly the only way to avoid that trap is to renounce your faith and start professing your belief in winged pasta creatures. ;)

I didn't. The point is people are watching some strange stupid sheet on TV. I just lost valuable seconds of my life viewing that insipid video....seconds I'll never get back.

THAT IS NOT WIFE SWAP. That is Trading Spouses. It's the God Warrior. She's on another one, too. It's like the best contestants ever return to do another episode.

Trading Spouses is way more trashy than Wife Swap. Do yourself a favor and watch Wife Swap. It makes the future of Christianity look much better.

Any religion can become dangerous, especially when becomes it dogmatic and is practiced by zealots.

Can Christianity become dangerous? Yes. Can Buddhism become dangerous? Yes. Yes, to all religions. It would be helpful to all if the partitioners of all religions would openly acknowledge that. In the United States we should feel an obligation to acknowledge that to each other as there is room for all of us to believe as we believe.

Television doesn't produce revenue by putting average Americans in "reality" shows. Nutters produce ad revenue. IMHO, the large mound of sound in the video above is an unbalanced person who claims to be a Christian. In addition, there are casting, cameras, maybe light scripting and certainly loads of editing involved. One thing not present is reality.

I think the better question may be, can religions become hijacked by zealots and mad bastards. Certainly, they can and they are. Perhaps because of media we should remind each other that the vast majority of people of any and all religions are not zealots and mad bastards.

It's pretty clear from watching that this woman, and most likely members of her family, are fundamentalists.
I came to the conclusion a long time ago that fundamentalism, in any religion, is a form of mental illness which closely resembles
drug addiction.
I'm a recovered (or as they say, "recovering") drug addict.
And as one, I see some very clear and obvious similarities.
In fact, they're impossible to ignore.

Poor Margaret. She is very mellowed out now. Her daughter died via a car wreck I think. And Margaret did appear on another Trading Spouses awhile later..this time she went to a black couples home. I will never forget what the gist was of what she said to the VERY racist black man that ranted and raved about whites. She said so humbly "you know, I have never really SEEN black vs white until I met you. You make me see color now. Before, I never really did". That struck home for me.

The point of the thread is never to mix Christianity with dark sidedness.

That sounds like a topic that would make a very interesting thread.

Even though I've been a member since 2005, I'm really just a newbie.
Sooooo, you wanna start that thread or should I??

I figure since you have all those golden gavels and brownie points your starting it will attract more participants, izzat right?
I'll jump in for sure. :rock

I have considered myself a newbie. I guess those golden gavels are rewards for running my mouth a lot and causing a lot of trouble. I do appreciate your vote of confidence. I just started a thread. These similarities aren't as obvious to me. I have never been through any therapy for addiction or through a 12 step program. I got the thread started. I hope you can bring it to life with your insight. :)

some how I think its possible for most Christians to not become screaming reality tv show characters

I'm pretty sure some People are assholes no matter what their theological standpoints.
