what do you feel about them ?

It varies quite a bit, depending on whom it is, and what is going on in my life at the time. Sometimes, I'm pissed off. At other times, I'm sad and heartbroken. Then there are times when the sweetness of old memories makes me smile. It just depends.

what do you feel about them ?

All manner of things.

Loss, yearning, regret, pain.

Wistful what-ifs... remembrances both humorous and serious... fond recollections and deep satisfaction at having known them.

And hope... that I will one day see them again.

In the last couple of years the stuff that used to piss me off about him has faded and the good stuff is shining a little brighter.

I'm thankful for that and hope it works that way for others.

thats why many still keep living l think. " hope " helps you when you lose the other things

but not being able to forget them is normal ?

I don't forget people that I love, present or gone. Ever.

Depends on how they passed and at what age.

even if they are your mom or grandmom who raised you ?

Medusa, You shouldn't limit that expectation of never forgotten love to mothers. Many people never really get over the death of their dad. Often people just think their father is going to go on forever and it is a terrible blow to lose him.

They are never forgotten, but neither are we forgotten by them...

All of our close ties are horrific losses. I lost a son, my father, and my husband. Each one of them is different, and each one of them has specific problems to deal with (in my experience). You never forget any of them. With enough time, the pain lessens, and fond memories fill in the gaps, but it is impossible to forget, and that's a good thing.

I agree. Forgetting would be a betrayal.

l believe they dont forget ,they see us !

That would be nice. I have known people who could sense their loved ones after losing them. I can't do that. With every loss, there is a huge void left, and no sense of the person left at all, for me.

l feel them,lizzie

My Mom who passed 28 years ago, the memories are gentle of the good and happy times. I still hear her admonishing me when I do things she wouldn't like. :)

My sister who just passed very recently, there is a huge hole in my life. My mind still wanders to recent things we talked about and did.

My love for them both is still strong. They both have been and always will be in my heart.

They are dead and it sucks. When a loved one dies a piece of yourself dies with them. But eventually their love grows with you. It will always hurt but at the same joyously awesome because of the love and happiness once shared that lives on in your mind; memories. Proud to have known them.

I think those are all real emotions we experience through the grieving process, but they fade with time, although how long it takes is totally subjective.

Wistful what-ifs... remembrances both humorous and serious... fond recollections and deep satisfaction at having known them.
And this is what those painful emotions evolve into.

I was celebrating my dad's birthday the other day. He would have been 83 last week, but died at a very young 45 in 1976. I always remember his birthday by raising a glass to him and listening to John Denver - his favourite singer - whose LP I bought him for his birthday, just 10 days before he died. It took a long time to stop feeling angry that we never got to share life for very long, but now that memorial day isn't a sad thing. I just think of it as a great opportunity to remember him and the great things that we did get to do together, all those years ago.
And hope... that I will one day see them again.
As I don't believe that will happen, that thought doesn't really occur. I can see how it might give some people comfort, so good for them, and you.

Lizzie, that is such a shame..Spirit trys so hard in every way that they can to stay connected with us... Look into ADCs (after death communications) and perhaps you will recognize a sign sent your way...
