If we discover alien life, does that disprove religion?

I think this could be an interesting discussion. Do you think it would disprove every religion if we discovered life outside of our Earth? If so do you think religious belief would plummet? If you are religious would it make you question your faith?

Also, would it have to be other intelligent life or would simple microorganisms have the same effect in your mind?

I don't think so. I'm sure religion would adapt to new information as it has throughout history. There's no reason God couldn't have created life elsewhere in the universe. The religious have come up with many ways to explain away doctrine that is no longer acceptable.

I like your avatar, btw. :)

what if they had monitored our religions, and decided to use their advanced technology to create 'miracles' and impersonate the returned messiah? for kicks?

It would be ridiculously easy for an advanced life form to create any myth it wanted to, and to create 'evidence'. And there could be any number of motivations to do so.

Do they have souls?

Yeah, that would be really interesting. I think you would see a serious divide among the religious on this issue. The soul isn't something you can detect scientifically (or so I assume), so how do you go about determining that?

Too many of the religious would go with what they deem to be revelation (interpretation of scripture), and would be completely convinced they were right.

God Has Many Mansions? Maybe that pertains to other worlds besides ours. Sure would be a waste of space if there weren't. And no..it would not change my belief in God.

I don't think that the Bible clearly disaprove the existance of extraterrestrial life. The Bible itself is human-based, whatever the interpretation of fanatics or atheists.
