What If You Were Directly Involved In A Fatal School Bus Accident Killing 50 Children

You are driving on a narrow mountain road on the outside edge of the road, a school bus swerves heading toward you. You can see the bus is loaded with children. You honk your horn and flash your lights and the only way to avoid a collision is to drive off the cliff to a certain death. The bus driver dose not respond. You decide to swerve inward to avoid the cliff and the bus passes by you lunging off the cliff. What would the remaining years of your life be like?

I would preemptively dive over the cliff at first glance of a school bus on the horizon. That way, there's no doubt they would be safe...

If you're asking if I would blame myself? The answer would be a resounding "no."

If one is the type of person who blames herself for all of the fateful things that happen around her in life, there is something wrong with us. We do enough wrong that we can and should be accountable for in this world to start wearing hair shirts for those things we can't control.

It seems that there was, indeed, another way to avoid a collision with that bus.

What IF......you were paddling a kayak up a mountain stream and baby Jesus was floating down on a raft with an alien kid who knew the cure for cancer and the secrets of free energy, but they were heading toward the waterfall you had just scaled and were doomed to be squished on the rocks at the bottom and eaten by the alligators with laser eyes that had mutated from the chemical run off of the plant that made Barbazol shaving cream which was illegally operating just outside the small town called Ellensworth where they make tinkertoys out of chicken bones for the children of Sudan but you couldn't reach them in time so you dove in which created a splash that forced them both over the waterfall to certain death.

How bad would you feel, and would you ever shave again?

If the bus driver doesn't respond, it doesn't make a difference what I do. Never having been is such a split second situation, I can't really make any predictions as to my gut reaction. I doubt there is enough time to stipulate on survival instinct vs being a hero.
