Mike Rowe talks about work.

Where does he promote working less? He talks about finding something other people won't do, finding a way to love it, then getting good at it.

What are you talking about ? He specifically talks about that.

Your title, You'll Be Happier if You Can Work Less, is what he says we're being sold as true by society - not what is true. Being semi-retired I can tell you that working less has nothing to do with it. It's working at something you like that makes the difference. When most people retire they don't stop working, they just start working at what they like instead of what they had to do to pay the bills. If you do happen to find a profession you really like to the point that you keep doing it even after you "retire", then you're very lucky.

I agree with the premise. I retired and I am downright giddy.

"Work Less" attach that to "Find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life" that is this man's point. If you look for work other people don't want you are never going to work less and that is in part why the work is not wanted. Get it? I worked in a store at age 9 and am 66 now and love my work so I'll go on working despite being very well off financially through saving and investing. I love work and have no idea about retirement because if I applied for a job called "retiring" under "Number of Years Experience" I am force to enter "None". If your employment is something you do not want to do then you are working and it is all your fault.

I cannot see myself doing nothing at retirement. I'm going to do something as Mike says, finding something I will like to do so it doesn't seem like work is the key. I go stir crazy after a few days of rest - can't stand it.

Work would be great if it wasn't for the corporate culture.

But I think I am finally burnt out

Ive been semi-retired for almost two years now and honestly Im getting bored so Im taking a more active role in the business once again.

Very true, I get stir crazy Sunday afternoon and I am off one every three weekends. I plan to travel the U.S. during the Spring and Fall months if I hang it up next year. The thought of doing nothing for the rest of my life is insane. I like to fish but not every hour of every day. A part time job would be great and I would not care what it paid as long as it got me out of the house.
