I came across this video yesterday and if you have the time, it's very interesting. Watch with an open mind and see what you think. I'd like to discuss the possibility of it being true, not necessarily a debate about religion please. I think religion plays into a part of this alternative view, but I'm looking more for something outside the bible.

Nah. It starts too spiritual for me. I tried to ignore it but then it glorified the budhists and today we know they have been committing atrocities throughout the ages:

Buddhist Crimes | Scoop News

So I will pass. Whatever the fast speaking, attention gathering person says, it has many flaws to the premises, and thereby probably the conclusion too.

I stopped watching at the tree of life. I like my science fiction to be set in space. Much more entertaining.

What about it specifically do you wish to discuss? I have only watched the beginning and the end, but will go back and watch the rest if there is some meaningful aspect you want to pow wow on despite the youtube user name including the word "satire".

I will give you 2 first blush reactions--that Egyptian Pharaoh's were depicted at very tall does not mean they were. It is symbolic artistic license signifying their position above others. AND I am of the school of thought that believes our own overestimation of our own intelligence, as if things only progress, clouds our view of past cultures. I am convinced that all these sites that people today think were created by aliens, etc, were really just navigational aids. I think the how the pyramids could have been built by regular humans thing has been done to death by researchers, so there is a whole body of experimental work that demonstrates how they could have done it.

I guess its not so much the video but the idea of an alternative human history than what we have been fed by religion or evolution. That there may be something else we don't know or haven't discovered yet.

The concept that could be considered proof, or evidence of something like extra terrestrial origins of the human species is a simple question...if we all started out from the same oceanic goo, how come we are the only ones that evolved to have higher brain functions?

So what do you think is the answer? Do you believe in evolution in any way?

Based on what I saw of the video, I am pretty well convinced that this was intended to be nothing more than a mockery of religion. As for alternate histories, of course there is. Facts get examined and re-examined as new information becomes available and different theories are put forth about the whys and whats of things. Our worldview is further shaped by our own present, for better or for worse.

Perhaps a non-controversial thing is food. For reasons known but to God, I have over the last few years been interested in the history of food. Modern refrigeration, expiration dates, food handling knowledge leave me with a predisposition to be shocked that humans did not go extinct with the way they handled food stores. The idea of eating fermented fish slime to survive, or preserving meat in jars of fat just seems insane to me, but that is how some did it. I understand the concept of why it works but it just seems so vile.

The point is there is a lot of history available but you never hear of because the powers that be bring forth that which they think is relevant in the way that they think is correct and the rest remains idle until someone else finds relevance in it or brings it forth. in 1000 years the only thing mainstream society will know of us is that we were barbarians who somehow managed to invent the computer, and the fringe society will think the computer was given to us by aliens because there was no way we were smart enough to invent that. They won't care that Obama was the first black President, or what one party of the other believes in, or how many people lived or died, or any of the things that consume our everyday because that is irrelevant to them.

That's a subject I've never given much thought but it does seem interesting now that you bring it up. Is there anything you are reading or videos in particular or do you just do your own research into it?

For me it was more of an organic process beginning with growing my own food and different preserving techniques and talking to other people, especially old people. There are a couple cooking shows that come on one of my PBS stations that impart periodic historic knowledge--New Scandinavian Cooking (New Scandinavian Cooking | Welcome to culinary Scandinavia) discusses the old ways from time to time and a Taste of history (A Taste of History - Winner of Three Emmy® Awards!), but I also read some group history blogs that address the subject sporadically, have done some research like how my city fed its civil war prisoners and what, and have talked to a lot of really old people. I would hear the stuff periodically and never thought much about it. As those folks started dying off, I realized I might want to interrogate them about all things food and garden and preserve what I have learned for future reference just in case I ever need it or decide to write something on it.

My grandmother in law in Mexico lives really old school like that, growing all her own food, and I could ask her about her techniques, if you are interested in that or if you haven't talked with anyone like that. I know she works primarily with maize if that helps.

I believe in evolution, but have reservations. Take the monarch butterfly. It has evolved to be poisonous to eat. Supposedly this happen over thousands, maybe even millions of generations of butterflies. One was born that tasted bad, and so on and so forth, till bad taste gave way to outright poisonous. But wait. Being poisonous to EAT...or bad tasting...does not help the creature that just got chewed up. After all, when one was born that tasted bad, it didn't send out a memo to all of its predators. Sure, maybe it also was born with bright colors...natures version of a memo...but to believe that both of those mutations happened in concert?

Less chance, more design, if you ask me.

Sure, but I really have zero luck with corn, or at least not as much as the critters have with my corn. I just throw all my materials in a box and maybe one day will do something with the boxes. It might be interesting to have her bread recipes and give them a try. I do love to make a mess in the kitchen whether it pays off or not. That everyday life of everyday people cultural history fascinates me more than the mythology of what Thomas Jefferson thought.
