The foregoing generations beheld God and nature face to face; we, through their eyes. Why should not we also enjoy an original relation to the universe? Why should not we have a poetry and philosophy of insight and not of tradition, and a religion by revelation to us, and not the history of theirs?
Spirituality is an inward journey, not to be dictated by others on what it is or what it means. We must transcend the codified and simplistic answers of organized religion, and seek the meaning of life only we as individual beings are capable of discovering and understanding. Better to be a lost soul seeking than an enslaved soul assured of itself.
