Good news

The fact that one criticizes religion doesn't mean that one hates the religious. Saying "your beliefs are not supported by the evidence" doesn't mean "you are a stupid person." It's entirely possible to respect believers -- and even their beliefs -- without accepting their beliefs as true or rational.

You gonna answer the question or not? If not, i'll move on to the next debate.
I thought i did , but in the interests of forum decency and polite societal debate i shall do it again for you using a different style this time.

why is it that the religious get so damn offended when they are criticized??

Speaking for myself i don't get offended when someone criticizes an actual comment made by me..i do get offensive when i'm pigeon holed.. that out of the way ....i think a lot of religious people with little faith or questionable faith seem to shout a lot on street corners and on forums get very defensive. Fanaticism is another sign of lack of faith.

you can say anything about their political affiliation, but ohh no, dont touch their religion.

I can't speak for others, but if you wish to discuss with me , stick to the words posted.
Don't infuse agendas and your own mirrored views unto me and then tell me and others what i think and what i am offended by....lol....

Do we need to be "More PC" to not offend the religious types??
I thought our society was too PC anyway.
i have found some people use this to insult.
i try not to confuse politeness with political correctness

dawkins premise is that if you believe in God you can't believe in evolution. you read and listen to his lectures and he demeans belief in God for the sake of a following.

Let me make one thing clear, I believe in evolution and see it as Intelligent Design.
i have my own personal relationship with the Holy Spirit and that intelligence has guided me at time through the Holy Bible's words.

Dawkins is making money from a following of non thinking sheeple....lol...

<snip>
No, he demeans religion for the sake of peace. You obvious haven't really listened to many of his speeches and I've only listened to a couple of his speeches on religion since I have little interest in his crusade. I like his science and the dummies out there don't read his science books. So much for your sheeple theory.

As for studying what you deny, I suggest you practice what you preach. Learning evolution from a nun when you were a teen just doesn't cut it. Much has changed since 1972, which is about when I read Origin of the Species for my second year biology class book report. Darwin would be shocked to see how much his theories have evolved in 150 years and the last 40+ have been especially important.

Hardly. Believing in a god is no better than believing in leprechauns. Anyone who believes in either needs help. I don't hate the religious, I pity them.

I like conservative atheists because they point out that conservatism is something other than the belief in a god. I also like you guys because you confuse the hell out of liberals. They cant just fall back on the anti-religious logic to denounce conservative views.

But I think that there are more conservative atheists than you think. Just a hunch, because of the many that I have known.

I don't find this confusing. Conservatism, at least in most regards, will survive even when theism is all but dead. It's easier to dismiss outlandish scriptural claims than to reach agreement on economic or social welfare issues. I think these are clearly disparate topics, though most of the deeply religious also happen to be conservative, for now anyway.
