Good news

What does Atheism have to do with Homo's dude? Are they teaching you in church that Atheists are gay? Or are you trolling for gay love?

Pretty simple to figure out, but I'll give you the guidance you need: You're both in the same bed with these constant "We hate people who have faith" threads.

Got it, dude?

No thanks necessary.

I don't get why it's supposed to be a positive thing that people are loosing faith in their traditions and beliefs. To me it's a sign that something bad is happening. The economy sucks, unemployment is still high, people are growing more miserable by the minute, and one of the alarms going off that tells us things are nearing condition black swatch plaid is supposed to be awesome for some reason. Partisanry at its finest.

I see so you think that because I am a Atheist that I hate people who have faith. Did you also learn that in church?

Another weird atheist/homosexual tantrum thread that others have faith that makes them happy, content and fills their life.

You have your homosexuality, we have our faith in God. We pity you, we aren't angry at you. Why not return the favor and put a sock in it for awhile?

What does atheism has anything to do with homosexuality? This thread is not about atheism neither, it is about less religious influence thus more emphasis on reason first.

I find a lot of atheists just don't think about religion.

they just do not believe. no big thinking to it.

when i was an atheist i tried hard to see why i did not believe in God...which eventually led me to God.

Forums have provided me with one real insight...most atheists just don't think about it but make a lot of noise about it and like to ridicule people that do think about it or believe in God.

then this whole Dawkins thing, like the guy is some sort of genius cause he doesn't believe in God.

He doesn;t offer much more than ridicule and philosophically speaking the man is nowhere to be seen.

which says a lot about the so called genius.

The thing is that the religious content neither asks nor is capable of stimulating thought in the first place. The content is just stories that they want you to believe them without thinking about it first.

God made man from mud, and woman from a man's rib - take it or leave us. Now this is not exactly quantum physics to stimulate thought is it?

OK, I was good until you got to Dawkins. LOL! Dawkins' work in science is excellent. His works on genetics, meme's, and the extended genome is well thought out and comprehensive. He does an excellent job of taking complex scientific ideas and presenting them in a form most semi-educated (HS) people can understand.

He's now taken his popularity as a science writer and focused it on what he believes is the biggest cause of continued ignorance in the world - religion. Of all the institutions out there, religion is the biggest and most organized that still continues to deny science to a great extent. Agreed some religions are learning and changing (notice the Catholics don't recognize Creationism but not Evolution, either? At least they're staying neutral!) but many others are just tightening their grip on dogma, instead. It's sad, really, and I applaud his work even if I think he's a little (OK, maybe a lot) caustic at times. If nothing else, I'm sure it'll convince some people in the world to find a better church or start changing the church they already attend. Ignorance doesn't do society any good at all, it just promotes the power mongers.

There's a difference between being spiritual and believing in religion. Everyone should have some spirituality. Atheists do not need religion to have that spirituality. Atheists realize that they are in control of their own actions, not some invisible force.

For example, if I held a pen in the air and dropped it, it falls to the ground. We know the invisible force called gravity makes the pen fall towards the ground. However, I dropped the pen because I was in control of it, not some god. The same thing goes for people's actions. They do things because they choose to, not because some invisible force is in control. Whether or not they realize they are the one's who are in control.

I have met homophobic atheists and ally and gay theists, but whatever, stick to your false dichotomy.

why is it that the religious get so damn offended when they are criticized?? you can say anything about their political affiliation, but ohh no, dont touch their religion.
Do we need to be "More PC" to not offend the religious types?? I thought our society was too PC anyway. At least that's what the heartless cons say.

I think a fair of the young are turned off by certain hateful rhetoric but also yeah, they just can't be bothered. Going a full hour without texting is more blasphemous than not sitting thru a sermon. Church and the bible are just intolerably boring these days.

Frankly, church was always boring, but religion itself serves a purpose, and to be honest, the church that I grew up in didn't spout hateful rhetoric. Religion serves to fill the void that intellectualism cannot fill, and an absence of it doesn't mean that people are more intelligent. In fact, the average IQ in this country has been falling over the past few decades. We've just become more easily entertained, because we don't want to think in abstract ideas anymore, and we prefer to pretend that how we are as individuals doesn't matter.

Being religious or not has nothing to do with being smart.

Unless you use religion as an excuse to ignore science, such as hardcore evangelists who deny evolution and support stuff like young earth creationism.

I know plenty of dumbass atheists.

Except that... well, it does. There have been countless studies done that confirm that IQ and religiousity are inversely proportional, the more religious one is, the less intelligent they tend to be.

Atheism isnt liberalism..I know it may seem that way to you but Atheism isnt a political affiliation. It would be like those liberals that assume that all Christian's are conservatives.

Yup, I'm a conservative atheist. I feel all alone much of the time, but it's true.

You're not alone Ceph.

I know I'm not completely alone, heck I do a podcast with other conservative atheists, but atheism does tend to be a sea of liberalism.

I like conservative atheists because they point out that conservatism is something other than the belief in a god. I also like you guys because you confuse the hell out of liberals. They cant just fall back on the anti-religious logic to denounce conservative views.

But I think that there are more conservative atheists than you think. Just a hunch, because of the many that I have known.

It's because conservatism isn't what's touted by the Republican Party, that's neo-conservatism, which has very little to do with actual conservatism. Just because you slap a label on something doesn't mean it is that thing. Conservatism is small government, personal responsibility and keeping the government the hell out of your life.

Wherever those conservative atheists are, I'd love to find them.

And liberalism isn't what's touted by Democrats, that's cult of personality statism.

I don't think that's true. Obviously there is a very vocal group of atheists who like to ridicule the religious, but I don't think they comprise much of the overall population of atheists. The people you talk to on forums are not going to be representative of the population. They will generally be the most vocal and most hostile to those who believe differently than they do.

This is also evidenced by the large number of overly hostile partisan hacks on DP, even though there are not they don't make up a huge percentage of real life people.

as regards to the comments on forums giving me insight: i did not mean that it provided me with my total experience with atheists.

I was brought up to be an atheist. My father and his beatnik friends held heady conversation over coffee and cake for years in my house, which i was privy to.

I know that there is more to atheistic thought than just non belief.

watch my next reply , it is a prime example of what i am referring to.

thanks for your post, and yes i agree with you.

I disagree totally especially when you degenerate religious and philosophical thought to this basest of base commentary;
God made man from mud, and woman from a man's rib - take it or leave us.

it's not supposed to be quantum mechanics, although educated in Holy Alchemy which takes what you just said and is quite capable in the hands of a master to elaborate on what you said in a quantum sense.

your post is a prime example of what i refer to as a non thinking atheist, basing it's conclusions on myopic browsing of religious and philosophical thought.

i don't expect much more from you but will tolerate your posting as per experience.

dawkins premise is that if you believe in God you can't believe in evolution. you read and listen to his lectures and he demeans belief in God for the sake of a following.

Let me make one thing clear, I believe in evolution and see it as Intelligent Design.
i have my own personal relationship with the Holy Spirit and that intelligence has guided me at time through the Holy Bible's words.

Dawkins is making money from a following of non thinking sheeple....lol...

now this is does not jive at all with my experience in high school..

true i only completed grade nine and failed totally in grade ten do to massive drug use and just ignored grade 11......but in montreal from 69' t0 72 i was taught by nuns in certain courses due to going to Catholic school..
one of which was a science teacher and this nun taught us evolution ...she had no problem when asked how it seemed to go against Genesis.

You see atheists love to ridicule the very fabric of religion and deny it's place in science.

You would do well to actually study what you deny and not just one religion.

Buddhist and Hindu scripture talk of other worlds and realms that support humans...Buddha talked of atoms and molecules as best he could 2500 years ago.

Enlightened beings from much farther advanced civilizations than here are born here with their knowledge intact and they all believe in God.

Now now i realize the uninformed Buddhists will argue Buddha did not believe in God...but there is not one solitary word from Him on the Subject of God the Creator and He lived in a society who all not only believed in but worshiped God, and the lesser gods and demi gods and goddesses....His only stipulation was not to look to Him or any gods for aid for ultimatly one needs to liberate oneself.

please do not impose your agenda upon a post from me.
i am not PC in my life at all...and i am never offended by someone who actually thinks about what they decide to post or talk about , especially when it goes against my beliefs and opinions.

again please refrain from using my posts and then deciding it fits your agenda.

it's insulting and just rude.

Im terribly sorry that you do not like my questions. I would still like them answered.
If you have a hard time being around people with opinions which, indeed, are pushing an agenda, then here's where you :Log out
What is the conservative mantra? ohh, yeah, that's right. Grow some thick skin.
