To Criticize Religion

My point is: that conversation can occur without anyone ever bringing religion into it.

It is not my intention to actually have that conversation here, but only to point out that the conversation does not need to include religion. If you would like to actually have a conversation on abortion, please open a thread in the appropriate forum.

Does it not have its roots in religion? Why are you against abortions?

In theory, yes it can. In practice though, the overwhelming majority of people who are against abortion feel that way only because of their religious beliefs. The same with gay marriage. The same with women's rights. It's virtually impossible to have an entirely non-religious discussion on any of these things.

No, it doesn't. What you see today in the media are the current loud-mouths who hog camera time. Those of us in the world who aren't attention whores naturally aren't going to be in front of camera so much, just as those of us who keep out opinions to ourselves aren't found on this very debate forum.

Why are you against abortions?
As a father I see how I was wrong in supporting two of my children being aborted. I knew at the time that my paternal duty began the moment the pregnancy began, I failed that duty, and have corrected my behavior and my mindset since.

Why do you see it as you failed your parental duty? Is it wrong to get an abortion?

That's just because only certain kinds of personalities even want to talk about politics, even fewer seek out online forums to hash it out. Also, there are folks like myself who will actively seek out any angle just for the sake of arguing. We care less about the topic itself and more about the art of arguing. This is why I participated in the Reverse Debate forum, before it was shut down do to a security concern.

That's deeper into the topic of abortion then I care here. I feel that I failed my duty as a father. I see elective abortion as other people failing in their parental duty just as I did, with the children paying the price. Just as I reject my own past failure, the choice I made, so do I reject theirs.

Is abortion "murder?"

Could we please not delve deeper into abortion/GM here?
