Why Does Religious People Attack Atheist?

**** that bull****. If it wanted me to believe in it, it should either show itself to me or not have made my skeptical nature not as severe.

ı just believe that we must gain good habits and have good manners in this world whether there is a god or not.we should take these books as an advice which makes our lives easier, but not a law book..

Well thast cool you as an individual can say whatever you please. But we are not talking about your personally we are talking about Christians as a collective. ANd CHristains believe the the Bible is truly the word of God. SO lets see what the Bible has to say about Atheism.

The Bible teaches Christians to be prejudice and hateful towards Atheists.

I know how much the theism-hating atheists like to talk about christians as if they represented all theists. Maybe you should take a look at the subject of this thread again. This thread is about "religious people", not just Christian people

And quoting selectively from a text and interpreting it literally is a childs ploy. I could do the same thing with Uncle Toms Cabin and "prove" that Harriet Beecher Stowe supported slavery

'Now, I'm principled against emancipating, in any case. Keep a negro under the care of a master, and he does well enough, and is respectable; but set them free, and they get lazy, and won't work, and take to drinking, and go all down to be mean, worthless fellows. I've seen it tried, hundreds of times. It's no favor to set them free.'" Chapter 29, pg. 323

For one thing, most christians do not interpret the Bible literally. For another, I strongly doubt that people who "depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons" can be considered "atheists" by any thinking person.

And again. Bernie Madoff is a man, proven to be real. He has made actions, which can be recorded and then measured against statements that he makes. There is no like proof or interaction with gods.

Your mothers love, unlike Bernies' crimes, were not and can not be recorded and measured

Your mothers love, unlike Bernies' crimes, were not and can not be recorded and measured

It can be verbally expressed and shown through action. Again, my mother is a lot more real than any god humans have invented over the centuries. She can be directly queried and give direct response; something the gods cannot do.

Verbal expressions aren't worth the paper they're written on, and actions can have several motivations. And I'm not asking you to prove the reality of your mothers existence; I'm asking you to prove the existence of her love for you, something you still have not provided any objective evidence for.

With the ability of words and actions demonstrating a concept of "love", I have no doubt that what my mother calls love is what she feels. Having measurement of her, her stated feelings, and derived actions is a heck of a lot more convincing than some invisible space monkey existing out there divining my entire future.

Well if "Verbal expressions aren't worth the paper they're written on" than neither is your argument. Which has been verbal has it not?

Science Proves It: New Love Is Like a Drug - CBS News The story begins with psychology professor Arthur Aron of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, who studies the neurology of love. His work has linked that euphoric phase of a fresh romance to brain regions rich in the chemical dopamine. Dopamine is key to what's called the brain's reward pathway, the feel-good mechanisms that encourage certain behaviors. Eating sweets, for example, boosts this system — and addictive drugs like cocaine hijack it.

"When people are in love, in many ways it's not dissimilar to what they get when they take amphetamines or stimulants: They're very excited, have loss of appetite, sleep loss, they're active, full of energy," noted Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse and a dopamine expert.

Then pain specialists noticed that if someone in an intense romance gazes at a picture of his or her amour while being poked or prodded, they feel less pain.

The Science Creative Quarterly » IS THERE A NEUROCHEMICAL BASIS FOR FALLING IN LOVE? Conclusion
From this concise look at a few of the chemicals in “Love’s Laboratory,” it is clear that an extensive collection of chemicals exists. And changes in any one of these chemicals in our bodies can have a multitude of (literally!) mind-boggling effects. “Experimenting” with these different chemicals likely accounts for the crazy and bewildering behaviour characteristic of people who have fallen in love. Though both Marazziti and Emanuele, and colleagues, take great care to point out the limitations of their studies, their findings do raise some fascinating questions about the biology and chemistry underlying the process of ‘twitterpation’, otherwise known as falling in love. Perhaps the most interesting question brought to light by these studies however, is whether the seemingly all-powerful, all-knowing world of science can, in fact, explain everything. And do we really want to?

The Neurobiology of Love. [Neuro Endocrinol Lett. 2005] - PubMed - NCBI Abstract
Love is a complex neurobiological phenomenon, relying on trust, belief, pleasure and reward activities within the brain, i.e., limbic processes. These processes critically involve oxytocin, vasopressin, dopamine, and serotonergic signaling. Moreover, endorphin and endogenous morphinergic mechanisms, coupled to nitric oxide autoregulatory pathways, play a role. Naturally rewarding or pleasurable activities are necessary for survival and appetitive motivation, usually governing beneficial biological behaviors like eating, sex, and reproduction. Yet, a broad basis of common signaling and beneficial neurobiological features exists with connection to the love concept, thereby combining physiological aspects related to maternal, romantic or sexual love and attachment with other healthy activities or neurobiological states. Medical practice can make use of this concept, i.e., mind/body or integrative medicine. Thus, love, pleasure, and lust have a stress-reducing and health-promoting potential, since they carry the ability to heal or facilitate beneficial motivation and behavior. In addition, love and pleasure ensure the survival of individuals and their species. After all, love is a joyful and useful activity that encompasses wellness and feelings of well-being.

Scientists Uncover Neurobiological Basis For Romantic Love, Trust, And Self "Our evidence suggests that both hypotheses are correct," says Lucy Brown, PhD, of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. "We found specific activity in regions of the right caudate nucleus and right ventral tegmental area. These brain areas are rich in dopamine and are part of the brain's motivation and reward system. Elevated levels of central dopamine produce energy, focused attention on novel stimuli, motivation to win a reward and feelings of elation - some of the core feelings of romantic love. Activity in other regions changed also, including one that another imaging study has shown to became active when people eat chocolate."

Abstract
Love, attachment, and truth of human monogamy have become important research themes in neuroscience. After the introduction of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET), neuroscientists have demonstrated increased interest in the neurobiology and neurochemistry of emotions, including love and affection. Neurobiologists have studied pair-bonding mechanisms in animal models of mate choice to elucidate neurochemical mechanisms underlying attachment and showed possible roles for oxytocin, vasopressin, and dopamine and their receptors in pair-bonding and monogamy. Unresolved is whether these substances are also critically involved in human attachment. The limited number of available imaging studies on love and affection is hampered by selection bias on gender, duration of a love affair, and cultural differences. Brain activity patterns associated with romantic love, shown with fMRI, overlapped with regions expressing oxytocin receptors in the animal models, but definite proof for a role of oxytocin in human attachment is still lacking. There is also evidence for a role of serotonin, cortisol, nerve growth factor, and testosterone in love and attachment. Changes in brain activity related to the various stages of a love affair, gender, and cultural differences are unresolved and will probably become important research themes in this field in the near future. In this review we give a resume of the current knowledge of the neurobiology of love and attachment and we discuss in brief the truth of human monogamy.

Having measurement of her, her stated feelings, and derived actions is a heck of a lot more convincing than some invisible space monkey existing out there divining my entire future.

Your doubts, or lack thereof, are not the issue. The issue is whether or not you have OBJECTIVE evidence to back it up with. So far, you have not provided any, yet you beleive it. According to the standards expressed by SOME atheists, that would make your belief irrational and delusional. Your mothers love is just as invisible as any God.

Well if "Verbal expressions aren't worth the paper they're written on" than neither is your argument. Which has been verbal has it not?

We're talking about objective evidence. His mothers' expressions of love are not objective evidence.

So what were you trying to tell us?

1) If MRI studies showing a correlation between a subjects feeling love and certain patterns of brain activity are objective evidence of loves' existence, then MRI studies showing a correlation between a subjects feeling Gods' presence and certain patterns of brain activity are objective evidence of Gods existence

'God spot' researchers see the light in MRI study | Science | The Guardian

2) Atheists who claim that the former is objective and the latter are subjective are demonstrating an irrational and delusional bias motivated by a hatred of religion.

On Nazi belt buckles reads "Gott mit uns" which translates to: "God with us" ... That doesn't exactly sound like an article of clothing an "atheist" would wear.

Ill ignore your false dilemma thing between objective and subjective perceptions since it is pointless. Instead since you opened a door that I enjoy going through; the God spot suggestion that religion is an evolutionary defense system to improve survival of an species.

But then there are scientists that dont believe that. But its an entertaining hypothsis on religion being a product of human evolution.

Belief and the brain's 'God spot' - Science - News - The Independent The researchers said their findings support the idea that the brain has evolved to be sensitive to any form of belief that improves the chances of survival, which could explain why a belief in God and the supernatural became so widespread in human evolutionary history.

"Religious belief and behaviour are a hallmark of human life, with no accepted animal equivalent, and found in all cultures," said Professor Jordan Grafman, from the US National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, near Washington. "Our results are unique in demonstrating that specific components of religious belief are mediated by well-known brain networks, and they support contemporary psychological theories that ground religious belief within evolutionary-adaptive cognitive functions."

Scientists are divided on whether religious belief has a biological basis. Some evolutionary theorists have suggested that Darwinian natural selection may have put a premium on individuals if they were able to use religious belief to survive hardships that may have overwhelmed those with no religious convictions. Others have suggested that religious belief is a side effect of a wider trait in the human brain to search for coherent beliefs about the outside world. Religion and the belief in God, they argue, are just a manifestation of this intrinsic, biological phenomenon that makes the human brain so intelligent and adaptable.

But it is always good to check back on a subject (especially when it involves science) and since I found the God spot study intriguing I have kept informed about it.

The latest study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, involved analysing the brains of volunteers, who had been asked to think about religious and moral problems and questions. For the analysis, the researchers used a functional magnetic-resonance imaging machine, which can identify the most energetically-active regions of the brain.

They found that people of different religious persuasions and beliefs, as well as atheists, all tended to use the same electrical circuits in the brain to solve a perceived moral conundrum – and the same circuits were used when religiously-inclined people dealt with issues related to God.

The study found that several areas of the brain are involved in religious belief, one within the frontal lobes of the cortex – which are unique to humans – and another in the more evolutionary-ancient regions deeper inside the brain, which humans share with apes and other primates, Professor Grafman said.

"There is nothing unique about religious belief in these brain structures. Religion doesn't have a 'God spot' as such, instead it's embedded in a whole range of other belief systems in the brain that we use everyday," Professor Grafman said.

Oops so much for the God spot argument.

Professor Grafman was more interested in how people coped with everyday moral and religious questions. He said that the latest study, published today, suggests the brain is inherently sensitive to believing in almost anything if there are grounds for doing so, but when there is a mystery about something, the same neural machinery is co-opted in the formulation of religious belief.

"When we have incomplete knowledge of the world around us, it offers us the opportunities to believe in God. When we don't have a scientific explanation for something, we tend to rely on supernatural explanations," said Professor Grafman, who believes in God. "Maybe obeying supernatural forces that we had no knowledge of made it easier for religious forms of belief to emerge."

“There is no God spot in the brain. Spiritual experiences are complex, like intense experiences with other human beings.” [14] However, the neuro imaging was conducted when the nuns remembered past mystical states and not while actual experiencing mystical states; “subjects were asked to remember and relive (eyes closed) the most intense mystical experience ever felt in their lives as a member of the Carmelite Order.” [15] This would fall under what is called State-specific memory. In other words, one can not recreate the mystic state by memory of the mystic state any more than one can be drunk by remembering a time when they actually were drunk. What Hitler was: a mastermind of manipulation - he made use of any phrase, word or sentiment he could to do what he wanted to do. . . and he was so good at it he got away with it for quite some time and many people still follow his inane teachings.

ı think hitler was a fan of pagan cults . so he cant be regarded as a deist or religious christian .that symbol is not cross but a swastika..his nazism doesnt stem from christianity. he was worse than crusaders...

in fact his ' religious' belief was Nazism ,no religion has an excuse for his pogroms.

The Swastika was used by German nationalists long before Nazism hijacked it.
In the 1800s, countries around Germany were growing much larger, forming empires; yet Germany was not a unified country until 1871. To counter the feeling of vulnerability and the stigma of youth, German nationalists in the mid-nineteenth century began to use the swastika, because it had ancient Aryan/Indian origins, to represent a long Germanic/Aryan history.

By the end of the nineteenth century, the swastika could be found on nationalist German volkisch periodicals and was the official emblem of the German Gymnasts' League.

In the beginning of the twentieth century, the swastika was a common symbol of German nationalism and could be found in a multitude of places such as the emblem for the Wandervogel, a German youth movement; on Joerg Lanz von Liebenfels' antisemitic periodical Ostara; on various Freikorps units; and as an emblem of the Thule Society. History of the Swastika

Further more Hitler was an Christian. It has been well documented that Hitler was not an Atheist.

“We were convinced that the people needs and requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out.” -Adolf Hitler, in a speech in Berlin on 24 Oct. 1933

“Only in the steady and constant application of force lies the very first prerequisite for success. This persistence, however, can always and only arise from a definite spiritual conviction. Any violence which does not spring from a firm, spiritual base, will be wavering and uncertain.” –Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf

“The anti-Semitism of the new movement was based on religious ideas instead of racial knowledge.” –Adolf Hitler Mein Kampf

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow my self to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows . For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people." –Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922

Due to Hitler’s involvement with the Church he began enacting doctrines of the Church as law. He outlawed all abortion, raged a death war on all homosexuals, and demanded corporal punishment in schools and home. Many times Hitler addressed the church and promised that Germany would implement its teachings: “The National Socialist State professes its allegiance to positive Christianity. It will be its honest endeavor to protect both the great Christian Confessions in their rights, to secure them from interference with their doctrines (Lehren), and in their duties to constitute a harmony with the views and the exigencies of the State of today.” –Adolf Hitler, on 26 June 1934, to Catholic bishops to assure them that he would take action against the new pagan propaganda “Providence has caused me to be Catholic, and I know therefore how to handle this Church.” -Adolf Hitler, reportedly to have said in Berlin in 1936 on the enmity of the Catholic Church to National Socialism Hitler was a Christian

History is currently being distorted by the millions of Christians who lie to have us believe that the Holocaust was not a Christian deed. Through subterfuge and concealment, many of today’s Church leaders and faithful Christians have camouflaged the Christianity of Adolf Hitler and have attempted to mark him an atheist, a pagan cult worshipper, or a false Christian in order to place his misdeeds on those with out Jesus. However, from the earliest formation of the Nazi party and throughout the period of conquest and growth, Hitler expressed his Christian support to the German citizenry and soldiers. Those who would make Hitler an atheist should turn their eyes to history books before they address their pews and chat rooms.

Considering that Christianity has thus far been incapable of producing an unbiased, educated follower which speaks the truth, (I haven’t encountered any), I have been forced to dispel the myth by writing this essay. It is not until I bring up his speeches, my personal info on the Nazi regime and their tactics that a Christian will begin to question what their clergy told them. (I am the offspring of a German soldier. My Opa served under Hitler in WW2 and my father was raised during the time of the Nazi regime. This is important information to take into consideration for I am privy to some info that most Americans do not know. It is common for American media and education institutions to lie to their citizens concerning Nazi Germany.) So, in presenting this information I must break it into four parts: 1) Facts about Hitler and his involvement with the Church. 2) How the Church was the catalyst for anti- Semitism. 3) Facts concerning how the Nazi regime drilled these beliefs into Germanic society. 4) Quotes Hitler made which prove he had a disdain for atheism/occultism, upheld his Christian faith, and hated Jews due to his Christianity. Hitler was a Christian

So...he was like every other televangelist of this day and age?

LOL - Televangelists just want your money.
Hitler wanted your soul, allengiance and purity.

He was insane: his rantings and ravings really make this notable . . . I don't think any insane people represent faith in any fashion. . . they just represent their own selves.

Obviously that is not a cross - thanks for that clarification though!

1. Hitler was baptized in Austria during his infancy
2. Hitler attended monastery school
3. He was an altar boy
4. Hitler identified himself as a "soldier for Christ" and wrote "“I had excellent opportunity to intoxicate myself with the solemn splendor of the brilliant church festivals. As was only natural, the abbot seemed to me, as the village priest had once seemed to my father, the highest and most desirable ideal.” - Mein Kempf
5. Hitler never was excommunicated nor thoroughly condemned by his church.
6. In 1933, Hitler wrote to the Nazi Party: "“The fact that the Vatican is concluding a treaty with the new Germany means the acknowledgement of the National Socialist state by the Catholic Church. This treaty shows the whole world clearly and unequivocally that the assertion that National Socialism [Nazism] is hostile to religion is a lie.” And, the Vatican gave Hitler the power to Veto who the pope appointed bishop in Germany.
7. Each April 20, Cardinal Bertram of Berlin was to send “warmest congratulations to the 'Fuhrer' in the name of the bishops and the dioceses in Germany with 'fervent prayers which the Catholics of Germany are sending to heaven on their altars.'"
8. “The National Socialist State professes its allegiance to positive Christianity. It will be its honest endeavor to protect both the great Christian Confessions in their rights, to secure them from interference with their doctrines, and in their duties to constitute a harmony with the views and the exigencies of the State of today.” –Adolf Hitler, in June 1934

2) Atheists who claim that the former is objective and the latter are subjective are demonstrating an irrational and delusional bias motivated by a hatred of religion.
Atheists are not a club, we do not all share some organized voice. We are not believers in Atheism, we are people that do not believe in the super natural.

So while some Atheists say some things, it really does not have anything to do with my assertions. What you are doing is cherry picking Atheism asserting the nuts represent all Atheists. It would be like me pointing to certain assertions by Christians as being the assertions of all Christians.

Why Does Religious People Attack Atheist? I have been questioning the accuracy of your assertions, and you continue to followup my challenges with assumptions that I am in some club. Then when that did not sway me you went on with trying to marginalize me individually. Are you trying to show us how religious people attack Atheists, or what?

"Atheists who claim that the former is objective and the latter are subjective are demonstrating an irrational and delusional bias motivated by a hatred of religion."

See you are being very judgmental in that sentence above. "irrational and delusional bias motivated by a hatred of religion" You throw out this hateful insult as if you were not biased as well. In fact you were implying that I was on that same biased bandwagon. I am guessing that your argument is that religious people attack Atheists because they think that all Atheists hate religion? Ill play devils advocate (all pun intended) So what if Atheists hate religion? Does that make us targets of hate as well? Religion is not a person it is not above scrutiny. Especially when religions can be very prejudice against sections of society. But in reality not all Atheists hate religion for various reason. See Atheism is not an organized affront on the religious. Atheism is not an religion. Sure there are some wacko Atheists that obsess about Atheism and treat it like an religion but there are always some wackos in anything that humans do.

For the most part Atheists tend to be individualists. We think individually not in group thought processing monarchies like most congregations seem to be. It is very interesting to watch a message get spread around the country from church to church. A good example is the Hitler was an Atheist propaganda. Or the denial about separation of church and state. Or since this tis the season, the anti traditional attack on the greetings 'Happy Holidays!'. Take back Christmas! lol no one took it away but churches like to rally their flock into believing that they must fight for Christmas. Happy Holidays has been a long standing greetings in America, because it is easier to say Happy holidays rather than mention all of the holidays that make up the holiday season. It isnt an attack on Christmas the assumption that the term happy holidays in an attack is paranoia. Which is why religious people attack Atheists, the religious are paranoid that Atheists are correct in their assertions that there is No God. So show some faith quit attacking Atheists.

to tell the truth,it doesnt interest me,but ı am sure he was not christian.i need more reliable sources to believe that he was religious..
What was Hitler doing in this photo? Hitler had complete power why did he still need a bishop? Hitler looks very pleased as most religious people do when faced to face with clergy.
