****ing stupid song.

We don't have free will.
We're the conglomerates of genetics and upbringing; perceptual entities in an epistemologically ambiguous physical Universe.

It's really funny that you should say that the song is ****ing stupid, since you're obviously supporting the ideas pointed out in the last verse.

Anyway, if it's really like you said and you don't believe in free will, then your irresponsible surrenderer mentality might well eliminate you from the gene pool, just as it eventually does to penniless drunkards who'd rather blame their unfavourable position on "the system" and get ****faced with cheap booze, because they've been "scammed", than accept the fact that they can and should actually do something about their situation.

Were you pre-ordained to say something so stupid, or did you choose to?

This was posted on songmeaning.com: The Leading Song Meaning Site on the Net (I only read it because their is usually some interesting perspectives on the website about songs). Why is it that so many threads have been talking about atheist being rude towards religion; when rather, it is the other way around. When I, an atheist, walk down through school, I come across religious people, more often than not, that are ready to throw their **** in my face. I think I speak for most atheist when I say, "If you keep your religion, ENTIRELY, out of my life, I have no problem with it." It becomes a problem and, therefore, a insult to me when people come to my door, start wars, and try to bring truth to their claims. Anyways, the point is that religious people are more openly able to attack atheists because, at our current time, it is sociological acceptable to do these things. Again, not making stereotypes but just making a general rationalization.

Just saw my title. for subject verb agreement.

Well most religions treat Atheism as worse than being in another religion. Because at least if the person believes in something than they can be converted. Atheists tend to not be as easy to convert.

Religious people also believe that either an Atheist has no morals and would have no problem committing the most heinous of crimes or is just simply under the control or deceived by the devil. They view Atheist as stupid for not seeing the light. And on top of that us Atheist not do not believe in a God?(s) but we tend to think its silly. So I would imagine that attitude doesnt sit well with believers.

if you are expecting religious people to keep their religion ENTIRELY out of your life... be prepared for extreme disappointment... they have free speech rights just like you do.

I think many Christians would rather deal with a Satanist than they would an atheist.

And religious people who expect atheists to keep their atheism ENTIRELY out of their lives should be prepared for extreme disappointment because atheists have free speech rights just like they do too.

It's cultural - regional, really . . . in some areas "religious" isn't dominating. Some churches don't encourage their followers to be aggressive - etc. The extent of the attitudes changes because of these other factors place to place. Or religions in an area are so diverse there's no telling who believe what in order to be confrontational.

I - being in a religious family - get hammered all the time and I'm not even an athiest - I just don't believe in the Bible. I use to be quite nasty in response but not so much anymore.

Religious people hate Atheists, because Atheists challenge their most important value in life.
why do atheists hate the religious then?.. same reason?

seems to me that's there is lots of ..dislike... to go around between atheists and the religious...not alot of high ground to be found among them in terms of disliking each other.

personally speaking, I don't tolerate either of them preachin' to me...I can't remove them from my life, but i can choose to ignore them, and i do.... continually.
they both bug me with their respective arrogant condescension

There is nothing important about an unjustified, unverified imaginary friend in the sky who makes them feel "better" and be able to "cope with life." Sorry if this offends them, but, it is the truth.

I disagree. I'm agnostic, but I recognize that a religious individual will put their faith and love in their creator above all other values. There is no verified or justified answer to existence, so pretty much everyone is guessing why we are here, how we got here, and what we are suppose to do. Everyone looks for answers to help them cope with life, whether that is a belief in a deity or an existential belief. They are all beliefs. The truth is whatever you believe it is, because beliefs shape our perceptions of reality.

Are you kidding me? The truth is whatever the thinker makes it out to be? Sounds a little bit like solipsism to me.

That may be your truth, but nobody can prove that it is THE truth.

I know a lot of secularists and pagans and don't hate any of them. I don't even think much about their non-belief or different belief.

But I'm curious--where are atheists being attacked?

But there is something ignorantly bigoted about implying that every religious person beliefs in an "imaginary friend in the sky who makes them feel better". Sorry if this offends the hate-theists, but is the truth

Until the time there is objective, compelling evidence for belief in a "god," it will remain imaginary and unjustified.

Until the time there is objective, compelling evidence for belief in "love," it will remain imaginary and unjustified

Oh wait! That need for objective evidence only applies to beliefs held by the religious. The hate-theists are free to believe based on subjective evidence

this is your opinion, not truth.

there is a difference.

There is the universe as it is and there is the universe as you see it. Your reality is the universe as you see it, filtered through your beliefs and preconceptions. That is the way it is for everyone. There is no "truth" in the universe as it is, there is only what is. Truth is a human concept where we arbitrarily categorize facts in order to try to make sense of the universe in hopes to bring our own individual realities into alignment with it.

Free to believe what?

And the universe (as it is) shows no evidence for "god"... By your words "there is only what is," then why believe in "god?" To my knowledge, there has been nothing shown that shows "he / she / it is"

No, the universe (as you perceive it) shows no evidence for god. Your "knowledge" (as in "To my knowledge") is not "all knowledge".

Some of us are more perceptive and more knowledgeable than the hate-theists
