In 1985, 17 year old lead guitarist Alex Skolnick joined the new, Berkeley CA based band "Testament", a successful 1980s thrash band. Alex was a student of famous guitarist Joe Satriani. He remained with Testament through their heyday of 1985-92. After leaving, he moved to NYC in 1998, and enrolled in "The New School" for courses in "Jazz & Contemporary Music". In 2002, he graduated with a degree in Jazz Performance.
After leaving Testament in 92, he took various temporary positions supporting successful metal bands(mostly) in studio and on tours. After graduating music school in 2002, he formed a jazz band. He plays guitar, along with 2 other members, an upright bass player and a jazz drummer. There's something else about him that I'll cover in a different thread, since it's a completely different subject(it's a rare hair condition).
