What difference does any of that make? I was responding to the notion of migrants coming from ****hole countries. FYI, Sicily was considered a ****hole, even by other Italians, Ireland was one to some, as was were places some Russian Jews emigrated from. My point was that *your* point was nothing new: same old anti-immigrant stuff in US history that surfaces after periods of new immigration. Not much different than the days of the Know-Nothings 170 or so years ago. Your post was part of an American tradition. Own it.

I guess that all would depend on the definition of a ****hole country. Do you have one?

As noted, way prior to 1990, many immigrant-sending countries were apparently considered in your undefined category. The South had many black people leave for the north starting decades ago. Was the South a ****hole? I imagine it might have seemed so to blacks, what with segregation and lynching and all. What about the Middle East? All ****holes? Do you except Israel, or only the non-Palestinian occupied parts? Tough call.

The problem for ****hole-labeling xenophobes started in 1965, I believe, when the Northern European bias in immigration law changed. As a teen in 1960, I remember candidate JFK visiting my Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn. One of the points in his speech was that opponent Nixon had voted to maintain the bias in law against Italians. The crowd responded with chants of “****hole Power!, ****hole Power!”

Last sentence a bit exaggerated. The neighborhood went for Nixon anyway. But still I await your definition.

P.S. and if we let in people from non-****hole countries as Trump has suggested, they will bring their socialist views with them, no doubt upsetting the OP, should they find this forum.
