There are people who think you can safely walk around any neighborhood just use common sense. There are those who realize it would be crazy to enter a neighborhood.

How do you feel?

I know someone who got robbed at gunpoint for their bag of cheeseburgers in one of our more rougher areas. You think I'm going to walk around that neighborhood? You must be on crack if you do!

Which "certain people" are you concerned about?

What are you wanting to actually discuss?

Again Mongidig, your going into a minority neighborhood and thinking that you are being targeted as a potential crime victim because you are white, is just your own racial bias that you are projecting on members of that neighborhood.

I live in the KC area. Statistically, Kansas City is the 5th most dangerous city in the country. I am a runner, been a runner my entire adult life. On a given year I will run at least 1500 miles. I used to be a cyclist. In a given year I would ride at least 5000 miles. I have ran and rode my road bike all over this city. In white neighborhoods, in black neighborhoods, in Hispanic neighborhoods, in Asian neighborhoods, in rural areas and in the inner city. Never had any problem, from any one, anywhere in terms of being harassed or targeted as a potential crime victim.

In fact, the biggest risk I face is people on their smartphones rather than looking at the road when they are driving. Was out running through the Plaza a few years ago and a woman looking down at her cell phone, made a right turn through an intersection - while I had a walk signal, and hit my dog I was running with (he was leashed a foot in front of me). In August 2016, I was out riding on the Paseo over lunch, and while at a stop light at 27th and the Paseo, a woman looking down at her cell phone struck me from behind at 45 mph, driving through me and the red light. I woke up in ICU hours later with a broken back, broken ribs, a shattered scapular, my skull exposed, and bleeding on the brain. You know who helped me until an ambulance arrived? Those inner city minorities you are so scared of.

I haven't been on my road bike since because it would worry my wife too much. I still run all over this city though. Never any problems, from anyone, anywhere. Hell, just last Sunday while on a run through Midtown KC, I ran past an inner city gay club and some drag queens out in front of it smoking cheered me on.

There are good people everywhere, quit being so scared of those that don't look like you.

Anybody who would be out of place. White people going to an all black or Mexican neighborhood would be the biggest example Because I'm talking about rough neighborhoods. It could be black people going into an all white neighborhood as well but there are not a ton of scary white neighborhoods. That being said, I would not go into an area with a bunch of white crackheads.

I've never had an issue, but then, I'm 6'3, 230 pounds.

Been to all sorts of neighborhoods, at all hours, doing all sorts of things. I used to jog at 11pm after work on MLK boulevard in FL, never had an issue. Waved to the hood rats drinking and smoking on the corners as I went by.

Far more dangerous for a black person to go to some white trash trailer park in SC than it is for a white person to go a "rough" ethnic neighborhood, imo.

Then where are you gonna get your crack?

That is a good example.

People always never have an issue until they do.

I've never had an issue in any neighborhood and I have been in all types.

I’m from Detroit, there are certain neighborhoods you want to avoid anytime of the day, but mostly at night.

I am white and live in a half "Mexican" neighborhood without any concerns about my safety. I have previously lived in majority black neighborhoods (in Prince George's County, MD), and majority Asian neighborhoods in Guam, without any concerns about my safety.

Now that I think about it, my own neighborhood is one people out in the suburbs tell their kids to avoid. Don't go east of a certain street number they say, I say good it keeps the riffraff out. :lamo

I agree that distracted drivers are a huge problem.

Maybe you don't have an issue running through a bad neighborhood. The problem could arise if you have to stop at any point.

Prince George county has some rough places. Been through there. Got an uncle who lives in Havre d Grace.

Well absolutely. Foolish to unnecessarily go into high crime areas. It's pretty obvious when you look out the window that you don't belong there. Same anywhere in the world.

That said i am in the construction industry and have worked in some pretty rough areas. I am 65 years old and have had a pistol toters license since i was 18 and never have i felt the need to pull a gun. Comforting to know its there but up till now i haven't needed it.

True. Just pray it doesn't happen in a bad neighborhood.

You've clearly got an axe to grind.

The problem isn't the neighborhood, its your perception.

I don't think your size is gonna matter if they shoot you.
