Box Separation Anxiety

Remarkable!

It's amazing how much a box adds to the value of otherwise useless stuff.

Come to think of it, that's another reason to keep boxes!!!

The line in the movie “The Graduate,” something about ‘plastics’ being an up and coming career field comes to me every time I bring/receive some item and begin the unpacking routine. There are some engineers behind the better packed things. Form fitted styrofoam and cardboard can be a marvel to behold. One of the reasons the packing is hard to part with, imo.

I'm pretty sure it's something that rubbed off on me from depression era relatives. My grandfather never threw away a mason jar. He screwed the lid to the bottom of a shelf in the basement and there they would hang with every nut, bolt, screw and spring he could salvage from any piece of equipment that bit the dust. The place was chock full of pieces, parts and pieces of parts that just might come in handy some day.

Oh I am just like that with electronics but we're talking about cardboard boxes.
I use modular parts and component cases and drawers, and I have a crap-ton of them all stacked up nice and neat in the garage.
In fact, I am building my new workstation and the power supply turned out to be non-compatible with the mobo I ordered.
No problem, I just cannibalized another PS from another machine and presto, the fan started spinning so we're ready to proceed with the rest of the build.

I don't LIKE the old PS (it's not modular - all the cables just snake out of it in a big jumbled mess) but it will do till I can order a replacement.

Now I just have to sell the "mistake" PS on Craigslist or eBay or something.
I'll probably take a twenty dollar loss, but hey, it's brand new and hasn't even been switched on yet.
It's a twenty dollar education...oh well, *** happens.

I don't know if this is a thing for a lot of people or if it's just job related but I have discovered that I have the potential to be a box hoarder. I just cleared out the storage room in the office and ran a bunch of perfectly good boxes to the trash...and it pained me. I then realized that I had the same sensation when I cleared boxes out of my garage after Christmas.

I mean, boxes are handy to have! You can put stuff in them and stack them so you can keep your stuff neat and organized thus giving you room for more stuff. A good, sturdy box is something you really might need some day and some of the smaller boxes come in handy for mailing stuff you might eventually send to someone. There is just so much potential in a good box that it's a shame to let it go to waste.

Anyway, I voiced this concern to my secretary and she confessed to similar feelings then one of the guys with an office around the corner noted the same thing when I ran into him in the parking lot so maybe it's not just me.

...Hopefully it's not just me.

Hello, my name is Holbritter and I'm a box hoarder.

Those smiling boxes are the best.

You're not helping my recovery!

I will say, amazon boxes are good for Christmas/birthday present boxes, as that what I tend to use them for if I still have them lying around.
