Just signed up looking to make a little side cash. Anyone drive for a rideshare? Got any advice to maximize earnings?

Just from my experience as a rider, keep your car looking new and totally clean. No food/drink (other than water bottle) and ask if what music is on is OK or what. Drive CAREFULLY, no comments about other drivers. Be verbal only enough to find out it your customer wants/likes to talk a bit, so be more of a listener than a talker. Of course, all the normal, but not always followed, pleasantries of name exchange, enjoy your/make it a great day, etc. Good luck.

Not having worked for it but did read about it.

If doing it part time, only work the surge pricing hours, accepting rides in more densely populated areas with destinations to other densely populated areas (less downtime)

Also sign up at the same time for Lyft, and the food delivery services accepting those when the others are down. If doing it for regular income and getting a car for it. Go with the most fuel efficient vehicle you can with the best reputation for low cost repairs and reliability (ie Toyota hybrid). You will be putting lots of miles on your car, wearing it out much quicker than otherwise would be. That is a cost that is not directly reflected in most people's calculations when it comes to being an Uber driver.

Expect after expenses (fuel, depreciation etc) expect to earn $12-14 /hr

Yes. I've a friend who drives for Lyft a couple of nights a week and often makes very good off-book tips. She's friendly (but not too chatty) and patient, willing to go through the Taco Bell drive-through. She always keeps mints and individually wrapped candies in her vehicle for passengers, and she has learned a learned a lot about which motels and restaurants and sites-to-see are good. (She's not from here.) When folks leave a phone or an unopened bottle of wine in her car, she reports that in right away.

If you drive at night, line the backseat flooring for the inevitable puke, and know where to go to have your car instantly cleaned.

A hidden video feed is not a bad idea. And beware of drunks, especially drunk women. (Putting on flack vest and helmet, now).

My son-in-law practically had to carry a woman to her front door.

I signed up to be a driver until I found out that no one wanted to ride in the trunk, I wouldn't want strangers with me inside of the car.

:lamo You're right. That's the look that tells a passenger, "welcome, get in, I will kill you"

Yes, keep a bucket handy in the car.
