Obviously groundhogs aren't tropical animals, but some of them love bananas, although their teeth aren't designed for "creamy" foods, so they are loud when eating them!
Some people think that groundhogs are dangerous or scary, and others exaggerate the "harm" they can do to their home and gardens. In reality, they are probably the least "dangerous" wild animal you'll find outside your home. If worried about garden damage, either install some 'loose' 2-3 foot tall chicken wire around "endangered plants", or just sacrifice a little of your extra garden plants to them.
We have them behind our house, but by now they are probably hibernating, and won't be seen til april(in Delaware). They also tend to relocate to different dens in different locations during the average year, so it's possible they will only be around during the season for a few months, if at all. I bring out excess fruit and occasional veggies or nuts for them(and for their squirrel cousins).
