I was called yesterday and informed by an 'officer' of the IRS that my social security number has been revoked and that my Social Security Card was found at a property with drugs and blood. Apparently, if I pay a certain fine to the IRS I can get my SSN re-validated and for whatever reason, they wont call the US Marshalls office and I wont be arrested.

I told him I had nothing to do with the drugs, but could probably explain the blood but really didnt want to go to prison but wasnt sure how paying a fine would make the evidence go away...to which he transferred me to another person that was this time from the marshalls office (and both apparently are recent immigrants from India or Pakistan from their accents) who proceeded to tell me that if I didnt let him transfer me back to the IRS officer and pay my fine that he would submit the warrant for my arrest. I told him that was bull****...that they couldnt pin the drugs on me and there was no way they would ever find the bodies...ooops...Ive said too much....to which he asked me if I though this was some kind of a joke?

Anyway...I had another 10 minutes or so to kill before the next appointment so I stung him out as long as possible....

Fraud season is in full effect. Watch out for those fraudulent emails and phishing attempts and for heavens sake...dont let the fake IRS agents send you to prison!

Be sure and write............:2wave:

love messing with these idiots when i have time

eventually they give up, but boy do they get frustrated first

it is usually the most fun i have in a day....

That is some funny ****, it is fun to keep those people occupied.

I have actually set up dates with telemarketers, they hate their jobs and are always up for a happy hour if they happen to located near you.

I used to really like discussing theology with the poor bastards that made the mistake of knocking on my door.

Nowadays I have grown old and my patience for the complete ignorance of religion by people trying to sell it door to door no longer exists...

Me, to telemarketer: “What is your name?“

Telemarketer: “My name BOB.”

Me: how do you spell that, BOB.”

Yow! I'm blown away by the responses here.

I would not initiate contact with any of these guys for all the tea in China! You're defining yourself and your email & media as a live prospect.

I'm kind of jealous. The last two calls I got like that were robocalls and I couldn't talk to anyone.

Then there's how Tom Mabe handles this crap:

I received the same call that you did.
Yeah, what you said.

Old but gold :)

Scammers are everywhere, in Finland people lost (total) 4 million euros - it was fancy new cyber currency scam (OneCoin).

Good laugh and lesson. Sometimes it's fun to **** with them, some days I'm not in the mood.
Mostly, If I don't recognize the number, I'm not answering.

We bought a phone a few years ago the has the capability of blocking 250 numbers. Last week the phone let us know that the ‘blocked’ log was full. I found the instructions on the web to erase the 250 so that I could begin anew. I think the scammers change numbers regularly, so as to circumvent call blocking. Someone has to be responding and contributing for these people to keep this game up......

It's a really good reminder, thanks. If anyone gets a call from the IRS or Social Security, hang up. If the IRS wants to reach you they never do it by telephone, they do it through the mail. There's also fraudulent phishing scams from PayPal and 110 million customers who received phishing emails pretending to be Netflix. Don't respond to those emails, forward the PayPal ones them to spoof@paypal.com

Netflix will never ask for your personal information over email. This includes:
Credit card number, Bank account details, Netflix password

If caught by a Netflix scam, sign into your account and change your password. Do not click on the link in the email and if you do click it by accident, do not proceed to give any of your information. I got burned from the Netflix scam and had to cancel my credit card and get a new one. Notify your credit card company as soon as you realize what happened and they will not hold you responsible for unauthorized charges on your card.

The holidays are the best times for email and phone scammers, so beware.

Did they leave a call back number? Cuz...just sayin...you CAN call them back and screw with them! Ive had people give me the most awkard cussing out in broken Hinglish....

I rarely answer the phone if I don't know the caller. Especially if its out of state or something.
In the rare event that I do answer, I usually just pick up and listen. If I hear nothing after a few seconds, I hang up. If its robo-call or "listen then pickup", I really don't have time for them.
In the case someone is there, and they don't say who they are with, I ask.
If I don't recognize it, I say "please take us off your call list, thank you...goodbye".
I believe not picking up, and definitely not talking, keeps you off lists or robocalls that are simply gathering the time and "who picks up" list, to then sell to other solicitors.

Of course, I hear my wife talking to every single caller...even once getting her PC hacked...completely destroying that grand strategy. Such is life :)

I like the Seinfeld tactic...ask for their home number..."So you don't want people calling you about B.S. at home?".

I usually use my coworkers line when I call them back (we mess with each other on a regular basis)...and what I have found when I call them back on the number they called is that eventually they will block your number because you are harassing them.

I would much prefer that they lose my number.

A friend of mine caught his wife about to give up her credit card number. I reckon the calls can be intimidating to people...especially if you have no concept of what is happening. They run these scams for a reason...some people are falling for them.

No...that guy that wants your back account info is PROBABLY NOT a Nigerian prince trying to transfer his countries wealth to share with you...

You do have to be REALLY careful with some people. I have a family friend that was just scammed out of $12k by one of those pop-up ads saying her computer had been compromised. They talked her into clearing out her bank account and trading it all in to gift cards.

If a person claiming to be from the IRS calls you, hang up they are a scammer. It is a joke and you should notify the authorities. If you gave them your card information contact your bank immediately and have them disable it. If you did recognize this scam. Hey i like your style.
