On Friday I got a job offer for a permanent salaried position for a company I really wanted to work for and I didn't even actually apply for it. I graduated 6 months ago but all I found was an internship which I started last month but now I have this job offer. Comes with a really good salary (my rent will only be 18% of my income), vacation, health insurance, everything. The only thing I am not looking forward to is the awkward conversation with my current manager that I will be ending my contract early at the busiest time of year for the company with the required two weeks notice.

All of this because a recruiter messaged me out of blue on LinkedIn because he liked my profile. This was a surprise because usually the only messages I get are from sketchy telemarketing companies.

I get those all the time, you'll be getting them from now on, too.

It's an employee's job market right now with unemployment at 3.6%.

Praise Trump.

I don't live in the US. Quebec's rate is only a few decimal points higher at 4% adjusted to US methodology.

Nobody should ever hold it against you for improving your standing in life and any company hiring you should understand if you want to give your current employer an appropiate amount of time to replace you.

Thats buisiness

Companies are always looking ahead and planning for the future. With falling unemployment, it takes more due diligence to find employees who are a good fit so the company has people in place for growth. A company hiring to due to increasing sales is a great place to be, and it takes effective manpower to grow effectively.

Good for you! (Make that rising sea make your boat rise faster than the others!)

Regarding notice. Be contrite and apologetic, and feel bad about it. It’s all about sincerity. Once you learn to fake that, you have it made!

It is not a question of if I want to, I am legally required to.

Accept the offer silly.

Congrats. Make sure to start packing away the money so you can invest it and diversify and increase your income. You got your shot now don't **** it up.

Well they are the first company I have interviewed with in a year that thinks that way. And if there is one thing my classes have taught me is that is actually very rare in the business world. Especially in large public companies, they never think beyond their next shareholder update.

I already did, waiting on the actual employment agreement now.

I was of the opinion that the OP wasn’t accepting a political position......

Be mindful that many positions require pre-employment physicals, which you should be certain to get out of the way before giving your final notice & acceptance of the new job. And many or most of these include drug testing. Stay away from pot for at least 2-3 months before the physical. Also, be mindful of the fact that sometimes these drug tests involve testing your hair for past drug use, which could lengthen the abstinence period unless you get your body completely shaved before. This in itself may raise questions. But good luck!

Many companies calculate their annual vacation calendars based on the calendar year, and many companies require you to begin your employment by the first of January. Since no one will advise you, check into this. I changed jobs once & lost 2 weeks vacation pay because of this.

Dude, he has another job and he’s saying adios to his old job that held him back. He should feel guilty for all of thirty seconds, read the speech and move on.

In a good economy, its a job seekers market. Enjoy it for a change.

As you get older, you will discover contracting is superior to being a full time employee. If you're perceived as temporary, they will mess with you less. Be wary of any "rank-and-yank" performance regime. "Rank-and-yank" creates a culture that encourages sabotage and credit stealing. Just keep your guard up.

Also, if you work for "the market" instead of being loyal to a company, you'll come out ahead. While you have this job, you should read ads for similar jobs or even a step higher and build your skills to be qualified when you want to move on. Don't forget to keep networking so that you can build your career from a position of strength.

Give your notice. Maybe your current company will make you a better offer to be a real employee instead of an exploited intern.

Way to make it political AND **** up the effort.

Praise Trump.

Why do people think that choosing a lean like "independent" and an allegedly independent-sounding name boosts the credibility of their posts? If you're going to type "praise Trump," it's clear what you are and it's no "independent."

Fantastic, Carjosse. I am glad you were able to find a job that allows you to stay in your home province.

That is all illegal for an employer to do that here. Also marijuana is legal, they cannot take action against you for using it in your free time, not that I use it anyways.

What kind of companies are you working for that would require all that?
