Famous People Who Were (Are) Actually Horrible People

Another great idiot was Buddy Rich. If you have ever heard the audio tapes of him berating his band and treating them like dirt, you know what I mean.

But, there is a great story about him, after he died:

I got nothin’ for you | The Monthly

I recall he was an arrogant arse, but man he could play them drums. Like Edith Piaf had the voice of an angel and the personality of a cockroach.

Another person who was horrible, but given a lot of admiration was C.S. Lewis. He had an obsession with spanking. One time, he got quite drunk, and kicked out of a party by offering a shilling to people per lash.

anyone mention Stephen Jobs?

Which cannot always serve as an excuse.

Understanding people in the context of the time in which they lived is not an excuse.

In every time and age a human being can act humane.

Understanding people in the context of the time in which they lived is not an excuse.

It is.

And one of the lamest of those lame excuses.

To "understand" everything is to understand nothing.

Not a fan of pearl clutchers who persist with pointless holier than thou pretension. I find them to be time sucks.

Goodbye

Really?
I liked his books.

He was quite into spanking. In fact, he got kicked out of party once by proclaiming he'll give a shilling to anybody who would let him whip them per lash.

People are largely a product of the time in which they lived.

So we shouldn't judge them by today's standards but rather what was costumary at the time.

Apart from today's standards there are also universal and timeless standards.

What sources do you have for that? I'm not coming up with anything.

One source for his writing
“Collected Letters of C. S. Lewis, Vol. I: 1905-1931” reviewed | 1207 Books

n a letter written in January 1917 Lewis begins to explain that he is writing the letter on his knee and this seemingly innocent comment leads him on to a discourse on whipping and spanking. He declares: “Across my knee … of course makes one think of positions for whipping: or rather not for whipping (you couldn’t get any swing) but for that torture with brushes … very humiliating for the victim” Soon he was signing his letters to Greeves “Philomastrix” (“lover of the whip”) and detailing gruesome fantasies involving Arthur’s younger sister, in which he whipped her “for the good of her soul”. In other letters he described a particularly beautiful girl he had seen in Oxford and what pain she would have suffered if she had received only half the torment he had inflicted on her in his imagination. Prime minister Winston Churchill was a right bastard. Nothing compared to Hitler or Stalin, mind you, but a right villain nonetheless.

Joan Crawford (Mommy Dearest), Aretha Franklin (bill delinquent and very disRESECTful to creditors), and, most definitely, the sitting president of the USA.

Mother Theresa (a harridan).

Cheers.
Evilroddy.
She deserves to be on the list just for embracing Farrakhan, even in death.

he sank low with his hot mic comment about cutting off Obama's balls

soon thereafter jackson jr wound up in federal prison

Was that when he called Obama the "n" word?

I think you're taking the worst possible interpretation of all of that. Your same link says, a little further down:

As far as anyone knows, Jack’s attraction to sadism never strayed beyond his own imagination, but no one will ever know what went on behind closed doors later in his life. For the eighteen-year-old at least, these sadistic musings went no further than that: onanistic fantasies and bravura to impress Arthur. (p 48)

 He was a young college kid who was into BDSM fantasies and wrote letters about it. It's not exactly uncommon. Doesn't make him a "horrible person."

As for getting "kicked out of party once by proclaiming he'll give a shilling to anybody who would let him whip them per lash," in the actual passage from his letter, his entire group was kicked out of a school they didn't attend because they were all drunk and boisterous, which is quite a different thing from him being kicked out specifically for offering the "spanking," which it doesn't appear anyone took him up on.

What he wrote and thought doesn't sound much different from Bernie Sanders's own (published) offering from his youth. It would be dumb to call Bernie a horrible person or "pervert" because he wrote this rape fantasy in his early 20s:

So, draw your conclusions, I guess. But like I said, sounds like you're taking the worst possible interpretation.

Aretha's musical talents were amazing, no question about that. But she was also a slut who couldn't keep her legs closed even in her young years. She got pregnant at age 12 and then again at 15.

Agreed that people are IN PART a product of their time. However they are who they are as a result of many other things, starting with their genes.

That makes her a victim, not a "slut"; she was raped as both a child and an underaged teen, clearly the victim of years of sexual abuse under the law. Your comments are disgusting.

I have a guitar pick that Jimi Hendrix personally handed to me at a pop festival in Denver in 1968 when I was 15. He liked to sit on the edge of the stage between songs, and just chat with the people. It's not signed, but it is mine.

If he didn't sign it, then how do I know it was handed to you by Hendrix, and that it wasn't given to you in 1968 by Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Notorious BIG, Lil Bow Wow, the country singer John Brennan from Real World season 2, or Ronald Reagan?? It seems more likely that it was given to you in 1968 either by Roy Orbison's uncle, or by ex football player Rodney Peete's wife Holly Robinson Peete!

I'll agree with you there! No idea how anyone could consider a 12 year old child "a slut". Isnt it more likely she was put into a bad overall social and family situation where she didn't have the best people around her to protect her?

Wait, "are those Bugle Boy genes"? Lol
