This video can start us off. I didn't know that about John Lennon, but I think I was aware of the others. I would've added Charlie Chaplin and Charles Dickens. Who else would you add?

People are largely a product of the time in which they lived.

I suppose Roman Polanski would fit on this list

If inspiring Hitler puts one at the top of the list, then Richard Wagner deserves a seat beside Ford.

Isn't Chevy Chase regarded as pretty much a giant douchebag?

I think I was 10 years old when I learned that Bobby Hull beat his wife. After that, I was pretty sure that the people we idolize for their gifts in the things they do professionally bears little, if any resemblance to who they are as people.

Oh, and yes. I was that smart at 10. Eat your hearts out.

Prime minister Winston Churchill was a right bastard. Nothing compared to Hitler or Stalin, mind you, but a right villain nonetheless.

Joan Crawford (Mommy Dearest), Aretha Franklin (bill delinquent and very disRESECTful to creditors), and, most definitely, the sitting president of the USA.

Mother Theresa (a harridan).

Cheers.
Evilroddy.

Stevecanuck:

Considering that Wagner was six years dead when Adolf was born, I think the composer can be forgiven as an accessory before the fact.

Cheers.

Ok. His antisemitic writings were highly regarded by Hitler, so I don't see how being dead changes that.

No excuse. Crappy people are crappy people no matter what moment in time they were born in to.

In 1977, I was really bummed out when I heard that Jodie Foster might be gay and Farah Fawcett got married.

Someone once observed: NEVER seek to meet one of your heroes, for you will be very disappointed when you inevitably learn that s/he is just a fallible human being like you.

Many years ago, I was waiting for a bus when I spotted a local hero of mine. I gushed: "Aren't you [his name]? I have long admired you." We talked for a minute when he spotted a friend. He then immediately walked away from me without saying a word. I had learned my lesson.

I was watching inside the actor studio recently with Alfre Woodard. When discussing playing the role of the Master's mistress slave in 12 Years a Slave she pointed out that slavery was just the economy back then and people had to do what they had to do to participate in it as best they could in their situation. It isn't excuses. It is reality. Anyway, if hating Jews is Henry Ford's great sin, why isn't Louis Farrakhan at the top of the heap?

Tom Cruise is weird and little. He is in a cult, and ex Scientologist say they have seen him physically abuse people. I can’t stand Tom Cruise. His ego is so big in his cult, many of the lower level members serve him on a daily basis.

And some people were super crappy to slaves - some weren't.

Louis Farrakhan is known for his extreme views. I think this video was about people who are more known for being and doing great things, but are lesser known for being pretty nasty people.

I bet there's a lot about Tom Cruise and other members of Scientology that we don't know now, but will come out decades from now.

Maybe because no one drives the Farrahhan F-150

I don't think it's that simple. If you were born into a tribe of A's, and grew up hearing your parents and other tribe members constantly complain that B's were lower than pond scum, you would think the same thing and act accordingly towards them. How could you not?

Everyone has a bad day, have a bad side. Everyone has something they are not proud of.
Look at Baldwin and the Huff.

That roman polanski, did horrible crimes, the worst part is france pretty much let them slide, germany and france could not find why the us made such a big deal over his crimes, despite his crimes being rape and tying up a 13 year old girl in his basement. apparently in france child rape either must be like a traffic violation or the rules change if you are a director for prosecution.

I think his mother getting killed by the Nazis right in front of his eyes and then his pregnant wife getting brutally murdered might have messed with his mind. Admittedly, I haven't read about this latest rape allegation, but if he's guilty, then there really is no excuse because he should've learned from the first time he faced rape charges.

i have a guitar that i have used for decades to obtain autographs of those who are great guitarists
in the mid-80's the kinks were playing locally and i showed up as i normally do, at sound check
got Ray Davies to sign after playing it. every guitarist has played it after i explained that Stevie Ray Vaughn played and signed it first. i have yet to have an artist decline to play and sign it

... except for Dave Davies. because i asked Ray to sign it first, Dave refused to add his signature. he hates his older brother, it seems. if "hate" is too strong, he does not seem to like being around his brother. when they broke up, he said "I just can't stand to be with him. About an hour with Ray's my limit". anyway, Dave Davies is a dick because he would not sign my guitar

John Wayne...he was racist...
Winston Churchill...he was a racist...
Gandhi...he was a sex addict...

I have a guitar pick that Jimi Hendrix personally handed to me at a pop festival in Denver in 1968 when I was 15. He liked to sit on the edge of the stage between songs, and just chat with the people. It's not signed, but it is mine.
