There have been soooooooooooooooo many ghost stories throughout the centuries.

Surely not all of the witnesses were deluded or lying, were they?

My problem with ghost stories is that the ghosts are usually clothed. Do the clothes die too and pass on to the next realm?

One theory is that how they appear is a self image thing, or a memory one. So when they form they are appearing in what the liked best or remember last when they died.

I believe in the unknown. That all you mentioned in your poll are possible and a lot more. Now they vary on my probability scale. I think there are things we don't understand and some of those we'll never understand or prove for that matter. But not being able to prove something doesn't mean it doesn't exist or existed at some point.

Quite a lot of us view thing rationally, if science can't prove something, then it doesn't exist. The universe is vast, full of unknowns. Full of things and happenings we don't understand and may never understand. Just because something is unknown, unexplainable, totally lacking in scientific proof or beyond reason in some's belief doesn't make it impossible or nonexistent.

Great way to put it.

It's pretty much how I feel, in a way anything can be possible. One of my favorite quotes is:

"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known."

I don't believe in any of it, but I do enjoy watching Ghost Adventures.

Great way to put it. Westerners in general try to make it everything rational out of an irrational universe.

I think that goes well along with one of mine.

"Nothing is impossible. Merely highly improbable."

I don't agree with that statement. There are many things that are impossible, we just might not know if it is possible or not. Our lack of knowledge about something doesn't make it possible.

In light of this spooky time of year, let's discuss paranormal activity. What do you believe in?

I dunno...I don't know if I "believe" in any of those things, per se, though of all of them, aliens seem most likely. But it's a big universe, with lots of possibility, and we are always learning how little we actually know. So...maybe to all of it, I guess? :)

Casper is naked as a j-bird...:2razz:

None specifically

I do want to see a ghost however. I would love to spend a vacation at a "haunted" house or building. If I did, it would change my entire outlook on the universe

I expect aliens exist, but I doubt they have visited earth. Any aliens capable of visiting earth would have the capacity to enslave us all. Now if they did, and not reveled themselves to us, they could be just observers, like what humans have done to animals on earth (and what has been seen in Star Trek shows)

Fantastical animals, no, with the advent of cells phones someone would have gotten a picture of one (good pictures)

This thread does kind of beg the question of, if there are space aliens on earth, what do they taste like?

If they were on earth, I think the bigger question is what do humans taste like. It would take vastly superior technology to get to earth from the nearest out of solar system planet.

To serve man. It's a cookbook!

That same lack of knowledge does not rule out possible either. The idea behind the saying is that there is a chance of an unknown to make something possible. There is a reason that saying note for the highly improbable.

We can also be limited by our assumptions and thinking. For example, I can factually make 2+3=11. Do you claim this to be possible or impossible, setting aside probability for the moment?

Only when it comes to our knowledge of weather it's possible or not. Our knowledge , or lack there of does not determine of something is possible or not.

In light of this spooky time of year, let's discuss paranormal activity. What do you believe in?

The biggest fairytales I believe in, in order:

1. Climate Change
2. Radon in Houses
3 Three Sexes
4 Trump Colluded
5 Hillary is Smart.

I believe in witches because I saw 5 of them on ABC's "The View".

I believe in the Brocken spectre.

A Brocken spectre (German: Brockengespenst), also called Brocken bow or mountain spectre, is the magnified (and apparently enormous) shadow of an observer cast upon clouds opposite the Sun's direction. The figure's head is often surrounded by the halo-like rings of coloured light forming a glory, which appears opposite the Sun's direction when uniformly-sized water droplets in clouds refract and backscatter sunlight.

The phenomenon can appear on any misty mountainside or cloud bank, even when seen from an aeroplane, but the frequent fogs and low-altitude accessibility of the Brocken, a peak in the Harz Mountains in Germany, have created a local legend from which the phenomenon draws its name. The Brocken spectre was observed and described by Johann Silberschlag in 1780, and has since been recorded often in literature about the region.

I could be tempted to believe in bigfoot but not so much as a bigfoot, just as one of many scarce species.

Ghosts aren't my thing. As I've aged (thus becoming closer to ghost material) I see less and less advantage in going that route.

While I believe there is life on other planets and that it's entirely feasible that they have figured out a way to get here, I don't think they have. Every species on this planet manages to mark its territory in some way or another. If aliens came here they have done something to let other explorers know they were here first.

Or....... Maybe the average galaxy traveling aliens chose not to come to earth, due to a distaste for flat planets? Now, many will read this, and disagree with my logic! Of course you'll make the obvious point that aliens MUST have come here SOMEHOW, in order to help the Egyptians and pre-Columbian societies build pyramids. Well, I'll admit that it's possible that there are aliens with "planetary shape" diversity, who wouldn't be put off by a flat planet! 😂
