About two weeks ago I started a new job in the IT consulting business. Hours aren't bad but commute sucks and takes up a lot of my time now. So until I move closer to that job probably in December, I won't be posting as much here. I went from **** pay at a non profit to a small IT firm with 2 raises coming in the next year. Couldn't be happier where I'm at. At the old job I was in charge of 500 computers and various projects that users didn't want to learn. At the new job I am in charge of 1000 computers and more projects that the clients obviously pay for and want to learn, plus the amount of stuff the new clients actually know when I walk troubleshooting through with them is 10X more than the staff at the non-profit, who didn't even seem to know what the difference b/t a tower and monitor was. That and the non-profit had no budget.

I didn't want to do work from home and I can now pay off my debt much quicker and live in a nicer town/apartment complex. The non-profit was a more cushier job but I'm learning way more at the new place and I'm not surrounded by uber religious trump supporters. At the non-profit I was bored out of my mind, it was a toxic environment, when I wasn't off browsing reddit or DP (yea at times it was more toxic than DP). At the new company there's always something going on and the boss likes to treat us with free food more often than not. There's 15 people there and most of them share my values or actually care about and know about interesting topics other than get rich quick schemes and complaining that it's not the 80s anymore. I've excelled so far at learning the processes and it's interesting learning how different/bad things were handled at my old job. No wonder they are envious/jealous when people leave.

Best of luck with your new job and situation.

Congrats on the new job! Sounds like way more fun, but for the commute.

I'm looking at a townhouse with a garage that's 10 mins away from the office next weekend! Crazy!

Grats on your new job!

Congratulations, NT. Don't stay away too long, we need you. :)

But Trump is getting impeached. Maybe he'll be gone by then!

One can only hope. :)

Good luck on your new job. It sounds like a great move all around.

Welcome back, and good luck with the new job. Always good to have sane conservatives/moderates around--you guys do exist!

Enjoy your new job and best of luck on finding a new place that's closer!

I noticed you hadn't been around, good to see you again. Congratulations on your new job, sounds perfect and good luck with your potential new home too. :peace

That's fantastic! Good for you. I'm a person that has worn many hats and every new challenge was a wonderful experience and a good choice. I'd get bored in jobs that felt stagnant and repetitive, there were no more demands on my learning curve. You sound happy and that's the most important thing. Like the saying goes, "if you're not growing, you're dying". Go forth and conquer.

tl;dr

too much drama

Congrats NT. We don't see eye to eye on politics, but it sounds like you are much happier in your new position. That's cool.

Congratulations, but you aren't in charge of 1,000 computers, 1,000 computers are in charge of you.
