In 1944, a very large number of German military, police and Intel officers devised a very complex, well organized plan to not only kill Hitler, but to quickly take control of the German government, after his successful assassination. The actual assassination was probably one of the simplest tasks, requiring only that an already trusted and well respected Wehrmacht colonel walk into a top level staff meeting, and place a bomb under a table where Hitler would be discussing strategy etc. The assassin was, Colonel Claus Philipp Maria Justinian Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg". He was a count.
The high explosives used were made up of 2 separate, compact explosive charges, each with its own detonator. These 2 charges fit snugly inside Von Stauffenberg's leather brief case. Before placing the bomb in the meeting room, he first found a private room, where he went to set up the 2 charges, by installing a detonator in each one, then placing them back in the brief case and placing it under the meeting room table, with timers set to explode during the meeting.
But he hit a 'snag'. One of the detonators seemed to be defective, so he set the 1 remaining detonator onto 1 of the explosive charges, placed that 1 charge into the brief case, but removed the 2nd charge, apparently due to a stupid, wrong-headed assumption that the 2nd charge would not explode without a detonator. He placed the brief case under the large, thick table in the meeting room, left the premises, and hoped for the best.
Unfortunately, with only 1/2 the originally planned amount of explosives in the device, it FAILED to kill Hitler! The THICK, solid table leg shielded Hitler from the blast, although many died, and there was much destruction. Here's why this failed, due to Von Stauffenberg's inexcusable ignorance. High explosives cannot be set off with simple fuses used with fireworks. They are very dangerous, and therefore designed to NOT explode easily. They require a "detonation" of another, usually much smaller device, ie. a 'detonator'. But here's the part that ANY moron with 2 weeks worth of military experience SHOULD KNOW..... If you set explosive charges near each other, the explosion of ANY one of them, will instantaneously 'detonate' ALL the other nearby charges! This is elementary 'Mythbuster's' level knowledge!
If (moron)Claus Von Stauffenberg had simply left the 2nd charge in the damn brief case, it WOULD have exploded! It WOULD have Killed Hitler nearly a year earlier!! It would've saved millions of lives! This is all time, historical level idiocy...
