'For F--ks Sake': Carolina Panthers Trashed After Gifting 12-Year-Old New Mowing Equipment Rather Than a College Scholarship
there are two lines of thought about the panthers giving lawn maintenance equipment to a 12 year old who is earning college money by mowing lawns
1: nicely done. helping out a kid who is motivated enough to mow lawns at an early age so his parents will not have to struggle to send him to college
- or -
2: cheap ass multi-billion dollar organization should have written him a scholarship check instead since the panthers can afford it
ok, in the grand scheme of things this is not a huge issue. however, i was stunned at the blowback the panthers organization received from recognizing a 12 year old who is so committed to going to college that he is mowing lawns today to be certain to afford that opportunity. the panthers gave him some football swag as well as lawn equipment to advance his fledgling proprietorship ... plus recognizing him publicly as a young man working to help himself and his family
yet here are some negative comments made about that panthers overture:
as i see it, the panthers reached out to an exceptional kid and gave him some gear, swag, and positive recognition. but from the above, their efforts seem to confirm that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"
am i missing something - or are the naysayers?

“This isn’t a feel good story,” one Twitter user opined. “a) this kid shouldn’t have to pay for college. b) he definitely shouldn’t have to mow lawns to pay for it. c) you rich asshole corporations should have just paid for him to go to college. What does a lawn mower even cost, for f-cks sake?”
“Instead of really helping this young brother with a scholarship or a bond, you do the minimum, then tweet it out so the world will see how Wonderful you are,” another chimed in. “Folkx DO NOT congratulate them, SHAME them.”
One woman wrote sarcastically, “We heard you were working your ass of to pay for college, so we’re gonna give you new equipment to continue to work yourself to death just to be in debt when you actually get there because working yourself to death wasn’t enough. Great job guys! @Panthers @Lowes.”
