My old system for undergrad went down all the time at night. That’s when I did my best work! No screaming, no fighting teenagers, no barking, no doorbells or phones ringing, no, “Honey, what’s for dinner?” I’d sit down, ready to go, and, “Our system is down for unscheduled maintenance. We should be back up by 8am tomorrow!”

That's what happens when your IT department is done on a shoestring budget. Everything runs behind, tickets are not resolved in a timely manner, and maintenance takes long hours.

The good news is that grad school is different from what you have been used to. The expectations on you as a grad student are much higher, but most of the classes will be much more interesting. Super is going to be a great fit. I'm so excited for her and so proud. She has busted her butt and been so successful despite having an overflowing homelife plate. You shouldn't have told her about the guilt, though. Even in the shower, I'd be thinking, "I should be...."
