This 26 second video shows us a very likely candidate for the person who was just "so vain" that he secretly became the subject of Carly Simon's famous song. Do you agree with me that ^he was the tall, dark, dashingly handsome and self confident lady's man that she sang about?

Carly Simon was referring to three men in the song "You're So Vain"; one of them she has identified as Warren Beatty, who was the inspiration for the second verse... "You had me several years ago, when I was quite naive..." The others remain a matter of speculation.

:)

I didn't know there was three of them. Warren Beatty, huh? I always thought it was Mick Jagger...or at least one of them was.

I wasn't aware of 3 people being referenced in that song. From the few sources I've listened to, it's always been discussed as a song about 1 former lover or friend.

Carly did indeed state that Beatty was the inspiration for the second verse. The remaining verses? Could be Jack Nicholson, James Taylor, Kris Kristofferson, Michael Crichton, director Bob Rafelson, English playboy Willie Donaldson, or Yardbirds bassist Paul Samwell-Smith. Other lovers were John Travolta, Mick Jagger, Albert Finney, and Keith Hernandez. Cat Stevens motivated her to write "Anticipation". Invited to dinner, Stevens was late and Carly had written Anticipation by the time he arrived. Carly and Cat had a brief love affair.

Warren Beatty.

Yeah, me too. But it doesn't surprise me that there might've been three. After all these years her lovers are probably still wondering if this song was about them.

That was to rumor, but Carly stated in her autobiography that Jagger was definitely not one of them. She still teases by saying she may eventually decide to reveal the other two... or not!

Well, I hope she doesn't take it to her grave because enquiring minds want to know. lol

Oh, indeed! One of my fave songs of all time; really, really curious!

Best version ever

I'm getting the distinct impression that you disagree with my assertion that Don Knotts was the subject of her song. He was the George Clooney and the Brad Pitt of his day! But he was also fully aware of his extreme good looks and irresistability to women. So it just makes sense that he was "so vain". Who else fits that exact profile, certainly not many! Tim Conway maybe? Lol

She wrote it about ME, because I was paying too much attention to Linda Ronstadt...in my dreams. ;)
There, mystery solved!

Mister Limpet was irresistible to women?? :lamo

She's told a few people. It was 3 people, and none of them were Mick Jagger.

The main annoying thing about Ronstadt is how she ripped off other singers songs:

I thought it was Kris Kristofersen.

Are you trying to imply that Jerome Anthony Gourdine and Warren Zevon feel ripped off by her?

Hopefully, they got a good cut of the royalties plus it shows lack of creativity on Ronstadt's part.

So you don't actually know the relationships she has had with both Gourdine and Zevon, and dozens of other artists throughout her career, which by the way, does not include the job title of "songwriter" and never has.

And by the way, there was a time when vocalists and instrumentalists did not write the songs that they recorded for the most part.
It just wasn't quite as common as it is today. Linda Ronstadt has never pretended to be a songwriter. She was a singer, the way generations of people were singers before her.

Her creativity consists of her ear and her singing voice, which is sadly now silenced by Parkinson's Disease.

OMG. My ears were bleeding within 20 seconds. :naughty

I love it...so funny, so good......Nova Scotia rhymes with Saratoga???
