Deepfake is an AI-based technology used to produce or alter video content so that it presents something that didn't, in fact, occur. The word, which applies to both the technologies and the videos created with it, is a portmanteau of deep learning and fake.

That means that just about anyone could create a deepfake to promote their chosen agenda. One danger is that people will take such videos at face value; another is that people will stop trusting in the validity of any video content at all.

That is actually not a good example... there are many deep fakes that are much better quality, but the concept is quite valid.

Maybe you can provide an example. As I said in the OP, I only learned of this today when I saw the video at the link.

Yes it is - and it would open the door wide to all sorts of legal action to dispute the legitimacy of the information that just may tip the election results.

Due to rules, those deepfakes can not be shared here. I believe they made fakes of celebrities.

Yeah, besides the possibility of deception it makes a whole bunch of stuff deniable.
Hopefully there's some kind of digital forensics that can get to the truth.
