Cars that are not coming back in 2020

"Devel team is still unable to design a vehicle that doesn’t fly away once it approaches 300 mph"

Perhaps they should just fit it with an afterburner and have Lockheed Martin redesign the body.

If you want some amusement, watch some of the YouTube videos presented by the muckety-mucks.
They speak about the vehicle almost as if Allah Himself helped design the car, and always always they stress how it IS THE FASTEST car on Earth, despite the fact that it has never exceeded 120 mph, and that for a short time due to overheating.

But take their word for it, "never been attempted before, totally designed and totally made in Dubai" (yeah, with an American engine and Italian bodywork, but totally made in Dubai, right.)

It is *almost* an "islamic supercar" but just in case anyone thinks I'm being unfair or bigoted, the Mormons went down this road decades ago when an enterprising church elder designed something called "The Mormon Meteor".

And it too was, rest assured, THE FASTEST CAR ON EARTH. Because: Mormon!

Mormon-Meteor.jpg

No, nobody in the videos makes mention of religion, but there is a clear and obvious connection being made at a cultural level, because: Dubai!
Dubai wants everyone to know that it has entered the realm of supercar construction, Dubai will rule the automotive universe...if they can just get their fake supercar to actually run, that is.

The worst offender is the YouTube video where the author used video software tricks to speed up the car's launch to absurd extremes.
Or maybe the car show where a guy is polishing the hood and a piece of the cardboard almost falls off?

Heh....it gets 20 miles to the surah/psalm/parashah...…( individual mileage may vary based on user operation and religious belief )

I think it's a cultural tic of some kind, it seems that there is a class of people who use opulence as a salve for a deep seated inferiority complex.
Obviously that's not unique to the Arab world, our own culture is rife with horrifying and embarrassing stories and accounts of nouveau riche Anglo types acting out their need to show the world they've arrived, too.

But it's amusing to listen to the dripping hype when it has an Arab accent. No, I don't know why I find it amusing. I just do.

In the decade I have been in the ME and Afghanistan, I have seen and heard it....its like one big cultural Billy Mays / Ron Popeil commercial.

And you are absolutely correct, it can be found in every segment of society and the world.

The Ford Probe was a front wheel drive Mazda rebadge. It was never a Mustang and Ford sold their interest in Mazda too.

In 1993, Ford announced the discontinuation of the Mustang. The Probe was to become the new Ford "sports car". Before 1994 hits, people throw a fit. Ford agrees to continue the Mustang.

1994 Ford Mustang:

That's a Probe.

Ford modified the 1994 Probe design and called it a Mustang.

WRONG, that is a Fox Body Mustang, more closely related to the British Mercury Capri than anything else.
The car pictured above is rear wheel drive, the Probe was front wheel drive. The two are entirely different cars, different body, different design and different origin.
You're wrong, you're just wrong.

I think GM lost a great opportunity; when the muscle cars started making a comeback ( Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, etc), they could have brought back the GTO and been a contender.

Instead, they brought back a weakly styled Sunbird knock off;

Had they done with styling that carried the DNA of the original GTO, it might have been a different story...

Even a resurrected Trans Am would have brought some interest.

As it stands now, there are after market conversion companies picking up and running with "what could have happened".

All those cars look awesome.

Agreed. GM fumbled, and badly. The muscle cars which 'look' like the ones from our youth are selling, Charger, Challenger, Mustang. Where's the GM?

Being a Pontiac for my entire life, not sure what car GM is going to try to sell me. Chevy interior design just isn't, Buick is an old man's car, and Cadillac is over priced for what you get.

Picked up a 'new to me' '09 G8 GT, and just love it, but then, with the 6L V8, is it a muscle car, so what's not to like?

Hope I can drive it a good long while before I have to reconsider what to buy.

LOL No it is not the Probe. The Probe is front wheel drive. The Mustang is REAR wheel drive. The only relation is that they are both Fords. The fuss was that Ford was going to call the FWD Probe a Mustang and they relented and called it a Probe and kept the Mustang. Mustangs are rear wheel drive American sports cars, Probes are front wheel drive Japanese cars. Big difference.

Based on the Mazda MX-6 as a sport compact coupe, the Probe was intended to fill the market niche formerly occupied by the Capri in Europe, and it was originally intended to be the fourth generation Ford Mustang in the North American market as a direct competitor with the Acura Integra, Nissan 200SX, and the Toyota Celica. During that time, Ford's marketing team had deemed that a front-wheel drive platform (borrowed Mazda GD and GE platforms) would have lower costs for production, and also because the platform had been gaining popularity with consumers.

Mustang fans objected to the front-wheel drive configuration, Japanese engineering, and lack of a V8, so Ford began work on a new design for the Mustang instead. On March 17, 1997, Ford announced the discontinuation of the Probe.[1]

Ford s releasing this 11 second 1/4 mile GT500 in a few weeks. Enough muscle for you? And no it is not a Probe. It's 100% American designed and built.

Never said anything about Probes. I do believe that was someone else's post.

The thing that I notice about Mustangs is they sound all nice, but it seems that there's more exhaust note than what you would expect from the forward motion observed.

LOL So over 700hp and 11 second 1/4 miles are not fast enough?

The MSRP is slightly over $1 mil. I'll stick with my $40k 2011 CTS Coupe which does the 1/4 in 15 seconds. No it it not the V model.

I keep getting pulled over by police for driving too slow. They yell at me, "that car has six cylinders, you're causing a traffic jam!" I alway know when it is time to turn left, everyone behind me is blowing their horns. :)

Damn. That pony car is pretty.

BTW, I hear you can get a deal on Tracy Morgan's slightly damaged Bugatti.

Talking about the body. Not the drivetrain. Look again.

Probestang. Only a loser would drive one.

You're still wrong. The two have nothing in common, NOTHING. ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA.
And...changing the drivetrain from FWD to RWD is a drastic departure...how many FWD 1969 VW Beetles have you ever heard of?

There was never a Probe based Mustang, Ford abandoned the idea before it ever hit the assembly line and you're clinging to ignorance.

Well in general he is not wrong. Not talking about the Shelby in the picture but the 5.0 like I have is what you normally see on the street. I have to admit the car is a blast but it makes a ton of noise and smoke doing it. The tires it comes with just aren't wide enough to launch easily. You would never want to get into a dash with something like a BMW x3 m4. The traction control and 4 wheel drive means the mustang is going to lose big time.

It is STILL not a Probestang because there never WAS a Probestang.
There *almost* was but Ford decided to NOT adapt a Mazda based design.

The term "Probestang" turned up in hotheaded nasty letters to Ford when RUMORS sprouted about the possibility.
"Probestang" is pretty much WHY Ford changed their mind.

There is no actual real "Probestang" and there never was, it was just a momentary Ford lapse in judgment.
I can't believe this nonsense, I am a MoPar guy and even I know this is just an old rumor.

It's fourth generation, 1994. Not third.

Look again.

The Mustang was discontinued. Officially. That was reversed. And we got a Probe with grooves in the doors and hood.

Not drivetrain. Just body.

And (for unknown reasons, right?) the first notchback coupe Mustang ever. We might note, the Probe offered notchback coupe.

It's twice the price of a typical 5.0 so it's not surprising you get a few more bells and whistles.
If you invest another 15 thousand into a 5.0 to bring it up to BMW price parity you might be surprised.

Oh, I agree with you. They are 2 completely different cars. That said, they didn't exactly hit it out of the park with the 4th generation mustang.

I can see how people would say they aren't different enough styling wise to argue they just rehashed an already done model.
