He told her to be 'nicer' and she pushed him off a bus, authorities say. He died a month later
Witnesses told detectives that the woman, 25-year-old Cadesha Bishop, was yelling profanities on the Las Vegas bus in the late afternoon of March 21.

When Serge Fournier passed her in the aisle, the report reviewed by the Review-Journal said, he told her "to be nicer to the passengers." Then she pushed him off the bus with both hands, the video shows.
He told her to be '''nicer''' and she pushed him off a bus, authorities say. He died a month later

Free advice is at a premium in America today.

Just a late late abortion.

Never ever give advice to unpleasant individuals.

In fact, try to get away as far as possible from such individuals.

Such individuals are bad news.

Nothing will change them.

That female bad actor no doubt has been obnoxious before.

One day she is going to upset the wrong person (not a 74-year-old senior citizen), and the results will not be pleasant -- for her.

It warms the cockles of my heart to know that individuals who mistreat me or other people will likely, eventually, get their comeuppance.

This was an alleged (but well documented) criminal act performed by one person acting alone. Threads based on the premise of her actions being representative of some group (other than violent criminals in general) are moronic. The age, race, religion or gender of the alleged perp has not been shown to be a factor although the age of the victim may have contributed to the seriousness of his injuries. Violent morons abound and are rarely, IMHO, given the harsh sentences that their demonstrated total disregard for the rights, safety and very life of others (thus odds of recidivism) deserve.

You're the second poster who needs to be reminded that "millennial" is primarily a temporal designation. Fifty years ago, this thread might have been titled "MYOB: Sixties Style." Chill out, man, and think before you call someone's post "moronic."

There is simply no "style" to a violent criminal act.

You do know, of course, that the word "millennial" is primarily a temporal reference, yes?

I believe Ted Bundy was a Baby Boomer. Is that important information for some reason?

Timothy McVeigh was a Christian. If he bombed the Oklahoma City Building today would you have started a thread about Christian Terrorism?

Mmm...maybe if a couple people say the same thing, it was you who were sloppy. Make that three, because I got my nose out of joint for a sec too... ;) Haven't read further in the thread yet to see if it stops there.

You're the only one so far who has gotten the point of the OP.

For the others:
"MYOB" is the moral of the story.
"Millennial Style" is a reference to the times we live in. This reading is reinforced by the reference to "today" below the link in the OP.

Much obliged to you, TheParser.

TheParser in post #5 got it right.

lol...how frustrating, usually you are much more eloquent.

If the moral of the story is MYOB, well...yeah, kinda. These are angry times. Certainly coaching others on "niceness" should be avoided, unless a black belt has already been earned. ;)

Being misunderstood is frustrating, if that's what you meant; and I guess I might have been "more eloquent" (=clearer?), but the misunderstanding is in fact another tale of our times, I think, and roughly corresponds, mutatis mutandis, with the OP linked news story. I should have minded my own business so to say and not bothered posting a news story as a morality tale, or else, in these times, not be too surprised to get pushed off the bus.

I dunno, now you sound self defeatist, and that's not a good look on you either. ;) After reading you for a while, I think you do tend to mistake your morality for general morality...at least, that's how you come off.

I don't think anyone would argue that this woman was an asshole. But if you are as aware of the current state of polarization, tribalism, and haste to knee jerk reactions as you say you are, then I would think you could have anticipated the outcome here. It's the caution we all must take if we wish to avoid being misunderstood. Maybe you set out to show us something, but I think maybe you learned something? Is that possible on an anonymous debate forum? ;)

An anonymous "debate" forum provides plenty of lessons in human nature, it seems to me, but most of them negative, as I've learned from experience at four or five different Boards or forums in the last ten years or so.

Indeed, one of those experiences and lessons found expression in the tale posted serially by me here in our blog section:

Are you a moral relativist, Nate? I'm surprised. I mean, if we're talking morality in the normative sense rather than the descriptive sense.
Morality in the normative sense must, it seems to me, be general or it is sheer nonsense.

Ummm...no. Millennial is a term for the group of people who were born from 1982 and after. I think what you're looking for is MYOB: New Millennium Style.

No, the primary meaning of "millennial" is the temporal designation.

It occurs to me now, too late perhaps, that some members may not get the meaning of MYOB.

Mind Your Own Business

The thread asks if this is the best policy given the hateful nature of millennial society.

Sheesh!

I don't know, Parser, but put yourself in another scenario.
Lets assume that we are on the subway, and some woman beats up on an elderly man. What should we do? MOOB, or step in?
Or some guy beats a dog senselessly? Can we, should we, just walk away?
Ok, so in this scenario, the woman must have just mouthed off and Fournier gave her advice.
The question is, should we, or should we not, ignore physically or verbally abusive people?
