Pet peeve: bad advertising

When I think of bad commercials I always think of this european ford commercial

Around here it is one dime down, your job is your credit, and dealer for the people, in austin they got the same with slight variation. All of these are independantly owned and operated, which makes me think all of these dealers are going with the same consulting firm, and iven the same generic strategy.

This guy does commercials on our one of our local station...wins the award hands down for most annoying...I mute him every time he comes on...I would not buy a car from him if my life depended on it...:doh

Betcha can't watch 2...:2razz:

Eddie Murphy did it better.

I love Jim Cashman ("Jamie"), and the current sitcom send-up starring "Flo."

What I hate is the Liberty Insurance jingle (if you can call it that). I hate them for coming up with that.

Liberty commercials have become really stupid. I wonder if that actor is a major stockholder as he is trying to make himself a celebrity - and is failing.

The my pillow guy also has tried to make himself a celebrity. Very annoying.

That he can sell pillows for $50 shows just how much power television commercials have over some people.

The Farmer's Insurance ads have worn out their shtick.
"We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two" was funny the first few times, but it's dead.

On the other hand, Allstate's Mayhem is apparently the gift that keeps on giving!

"Recalculating!"

In the first few of these mayhem commercials, the actor, Dean Winters, had a shaved head and he was nearly a dead ringer for Jason Statham. I suspect he suddenly got hair when reps for Statham claimed Allstate was infringing on his image.

TV commercials never bother me.

I don't watch TV

In the past commercials were often much more enjoyable, even to the point of being really funny and informative.

Like this one from waaaayyyyy back.

I had to post this, the actor who plays the role of presenter in the commercial has died yesterday aged 78. It is a commercial about dairy products and when he gets splashed he shouts: I told you, no bombing diving. Rest in peace Peer Mascini.

The ones that anger me the most are TV commercials for tier 4 drugs like Eliquis, Humera and Harvoni. I know that those commercials run longer than most, the pharma companies can well afford a full 60 second + commercial. I know because I'm taking one of those tier 4 drugs and it costs $875 for 30 days without insurance.

But here's some good news,

TV Ads for Drugs Must Now Include Prices. It's the Latest Effort to Drive Down Pharmaceutical Costs

Drug Prices Will Now Be Listed in Television Ads | Time

"At a time when nearly a fifth of Americans have struggled to pay medical bills, the Trump Administration will soon require drug companies to list medication prices in television advertisements. It’s a move meant to boost transparency and drive down ballooning drug costs."

If this law goes through I will cheerfully applaud Trump for it.
Yes, we all get hammered by a nonstop parade of DRUG ads, my God it's like being waterboarded.
But Trump thinks these fancy ads all need to include a price tag, and I agree.
How MUCH am I going to pay for Keytruda or that nifty arthritis drug that I can't even pronounce.

Ooooooooo....hard to laugh at decapitating kitties, I love cats.
Couldn't they have just made the car honk instead? Cat would have jumped four feet in the air!

I think you have your insurance companies confused. Jim Cashman/"Jamie" is in the Progressive commercials. He was a Groundling (stand-up improv group like Second City with many super-successful/famous names), and so was Stephanie Courtney ("Flo").

Remember these commercials starring Canadian comedian Eric Violette?

Still, the jingle does what it's supposed to do. The first time I heard it, I thought of radio jingles from the '40's (or so).

See why I said when I think of bad commercials, I am sure ford took a big hit with cat lovers with that commercial.

Oh, the My Pillow jingle? Gotta admit, it's a real jingle.

 OMG, that is positively horrible! Seriously, who could possibly think that was a good idea??

Oh, wow. Thank you very much for the link. Gap in my musical education, and I'm looking forward to texting my sister and my best friend's husband this morning with "Did you know that...?"

Oh if you really want to have some fun, watch the documentary about them.

Here is a very funny outtake from the movie where everyone talks about Leon, including Cher.

When I read the Wiki entry, I realized I need to hunt up the documentary. I was given a Roku for Mother's Day, so I'm hopeful I can find it on Netflix or Prime.

The Wrecking Crew, Twenty Feet From Stardom and Standing in the Shadows of Motown are all well worth watching.
That last one will actually bring a tear to your eye several times.

They start talking about how Robert White invented the signature guitar riffs for "My Girl" by the Temptations, and how that riff became the cornerstone of one of the greatest Motown hits in history, and yet Robert White never got recognized for it, to the point where he was in a restaurant with the film's director and the song came over the speakers, and he hung his head, realizing no one would ever know it was him.

Ford motor company, they also had one where a bird flies for the sportka and the hood rapidly opens and smacks the bird. Apparently ford did indeed think the commercial was a good idea, and I am sure many complained about the commercial.

It's sick. :(

These were going around years ago, seems to be a local ad

Why post this under bad commercials this should be under the most awesome commercials ever thread!

I don't know what some ad agencies are thinking. There are commercials that irritate me so much, that I make a point of never patronizing that business.

One example among many: "Bad-a-book, bad-a-boom" ads by Choice Hotels. What an annoying fellow! The ads show brainstorming sections with Choice employees, or customers. Anytime someone has a valid idea, that idiot comes up with his "bad-a-book, bad-a-boom" annoying line. I will NEVER stay in a Choice hotel just because of this stupid ad campaign.

Is it just me, or do you guys and gals have other irritating campaigns that turn you off so that you avoid the businesses being advertised? Any examples?

While I certainly sympathize with you, I don't refuse any product or service just because they give us bad commercials. But all things being equal, given a choice between two products and services for which there are no important differences, then yeah, I could see me choosing the product that offered me really good ads that I enjoyed watching. We bought Budweiser beer for years just because I love their ads.

I love Progressive ads too--they almost always hold my attention--but I don't use their product because there are others that I prefer.

I guess bad ads don't drive me away from a product and good ads don't always inspire me to buy it. I don't mind bad-a-book as much as you do, and we did recently stay in a Choice Hotel--a Clarion to be exact. It was such a disappointing experience it will be a long time before we stay in another. Bad advertising I can put up with. A really bad product, I won't.
