If you will leave a bag with some items of non-perishable food next to your mailbox, your letter carrier will collect it. It will be donated to organizations that feed the hungry.

Furthermore, if you are lucky enough to have a conscientious letter carrier, this is your chance to thank him/her. If s/he returns to the post office with bags from lots of people on his/her route, this will make a nice impression on his/her superior.

If you are a lover of the English language, please excuse me for using such ugly-looking constructions as "s/he" and "his/her." Being very old, I simply cannot bring myself to use the currently "they" as the gender-neutral pronoun, as in "If everyone brings their book to class, I will give them a piece of candy." (It is now politically incorrect, of course, to say "If everyone brings his book, I'll give him some candy.")

Some people just can't leave well enough alone in the "non-political" section of the forum.

Heading out today to fill my bag. It's quite a hike for my mail lady to get to my mailbox so my thought was get light things like pasta, dry beans. Just talked to her and she's off that day, canned goods here we come!

How was I not aware of this? And, when did it start?

The 27th annual Letter Carriers’
Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive
is on Saturday, May 11, 2019.

Not really sure when it started but I've done it for the last three years. I try to get things that don't require additional items (milk, butter or meat) so it's generally packages of spaghetti noodles, cans of sauce, pancake mix that only needs water, canned veggies, packages of ramen, canned chicken, tuna and PB and J. I guess think starving college students days.

Since you're right down the street, I'd consider beating the mailman to that bag myself! :2razz:

The letter carrier usually puts a postcard in your mailbox announcing the event.

This year, however, as of Thursday, we had not received a card.

I learned about it while listening to radio news Thursday afternoon.

Have a nice weekend

That's the funny thing. Normally I just get the postcard but this year they dropped off an actual paper bag on Tues (?) and then yesterday my carrier handed me the postcard. Either way I'm all set.....or maybe Chomsky is?

Damn!! You're playing hard ball I see.

Let me think on this...........
While you were thinking, my kid grabbed your grub stash; you snooze, you lose!

Damn dude you really went all out for that stuff, getting your kid the uniform, renting a usps truck, the whole makeover so it looked just like my fill in carrier!! I'm impressed for sure. :peace
