I have just discovered a website called Good News Network.

As its title indicates, it is devoted to positive news.

For example, a couple were driving to see an elderly sick woman. Their car broke down. A stranger saw them standing by the road. Upon hearing their story, he volunteered to drive them 200 miles to their destination. The couple were able to arrive before the elderly lady passed away.

These are the kind of stories that inspire and touch our hearts.

Good news doesn't sell ;)

In all seriousness I agree that more good news would be a welcomed change.

The Bobby Bones radio show has a segment called “Tell Me Something Good” where they only tell good stories. It is actually the only part of his show I tune in for. I think the last one I heard they talked about a 104 year old woman who intentionally got herself “arrested” because she had never been on the wrong side of the law and getting arrested was on her “bucket list”.

They were just playing along, though. If I were her I would have done it for real with something light. Like walk up to a cop in a nonfree state, pull out a joint, and ask for a light. If that didn’t convince the cop then pull out a crack pipe. ;)

Relying on the media for your happiness?

There is a fun and exciting world outside your doors, but weak minded people get locked into newspapers and the internet regardless of this fact..

I'm enjoying a new TV show entitled "God Friended Me." The protagonist, whose podcast is "The Millennial Prophet," is an atheist, and no, there is no proselytizing or indication that Miles is going to find religion. Refreshingly, there are no smartassed kids or dumb dads or violence, just a few friends who end up helping folks they don't know in unusual ways.

Today's good news.

I have just read on the Daily Mail's website about an uplifting story regarding the New York City subway system (which regularly supplies us with depressing stories about the behavior of bad actors).

A woman was boarding a subway car (carriage) with her suitcase.

A wheel on her suitcase got stuck between the car and the platform.

A group of commuters on the platform immediately started to rock the car in unison.

One commuter used the occasion to dislodge the wheel.

All the people were smiling as they boarded the car and started their daily journey. (Smiling NYC subway riders, it is said, are a rarity!)

I have just read this on Breitbart. (There's also a video.)

1. In New Jersey, a mother took her 5-year-old autistic son to a skate park in order to celebrate his birthday.

2. She became alarmed when a group of 13-year-old boys arrived.

3. She was preparing to leave with her son when the boys astonished her by being extra nice to her son.

a. They let him play with their skateboards.
b. They sang "Happy Birthday" to him.

4. When the police department found out about the boys' kindness, they threw a pizza party for all the kids.

If you are after uplifting news try this;

YouTube

India has apparently a program of getting villages to do rainwater catchment and storage. In this video they are able to grow potatoes in 250mm of rainfall. That is desert conditions.

If you ever visit Phoenix (in the American state of Arizona), you will see Camelback Mountain in the middle of the city.

If you (like many other people) decide to hike 1.3 miles up to the top of the mountain, remember two things:

1. Phoenix is super hot from June to September.
2. You will need plenty of water for the hike.

Sadly, some people do NOT pay attention to those two warnings.

In 2015, a British tourist died there after being lost for six hours in the July heat.

Since that incident Scott Cullymore hikes up and down that mountain "a couple of times a day."

Why?

If he sees a hiker with a flushed face and is not sweating anymore, Mr. Cullymore (from his backpack) gives the hiker a frosty bottle of water (which he pays for himself).

Many people in Phoenix know him by his nickname: "The Water Angel."

Title of article: "The Water Angel" in a section titled "Everyday Heroes."

I have just read about this on Microsoft News.

1. An elderly woman left the supermarket and was walking back to her car while it was raining heavily in Independence, Missouri.

2. A teenager sitting in a vehicle saw her, so he quickly jumped out and walked over to the woman. The teenager took off his coat and put it around the elderly woman to shield her from the rain until she reached her car.

3. The teenager then returned to his vehicle.

4. A police officer happened to see the incident, but he did not get the teenager's name, so he is asking people in Independence to help him find the teenager in order to give him some kind of recognition. The cop did, however, post a photograph of the teenager helping the woman.

*****

P.S. The article reports that the woman was Caucasian and the teenager was African American. The cop's ethnicity was not reported.

This story was for me a nice way to start the new week, especially since this month I am scheduled for a colonoscopy and the preparation is horrible!

Yes, b/c it really brings my world view and faith in humanity down. We should report on the bad stuff of course, but I think more good news would be nice to balance it out better.

UPDATE

1. I have just returned from Microsoft News.

a. Someone identified the young man. (He is fourteen years old.)

b. Officer Joe Holt treated the young man and his mother to a delicious lobster dinner.

There was great news yesterday. Warmonger John Bolton was sacked! That's very good news for everyone, as he is always trying to push us into more wars!

Just stumbled across a video that made me cry and will make you cry, too.

It's about the power of a teacher.

I'm a senior citizen who is computer illiterate, so I can't link. Sorry. Just google these words:

YouTube Teacher enjoyed failing this student, but got shocked
