Whenever I have the occasional soda/pop, it's Dr. Pepper. No Coke or Pepsi.

Sprite Zero. The caffeine in colas is a diuretic & I spend too much time in rest rooms as it is.

Also, the CO2 in soda is in the form of carbonic acid, so drinking a lot of soda might have negative effects on your teeth.

My mother told me that if you left a tooth in a class of Coke, it would dissolve by morning.

Looks like I wasn’t the only one......

Tooth in Coca-Cola

I swear by the drink of gamer nerds everywhere, Mt. Dew. Unfortunately, being diabetic(maybe from drinking so much Mt Dew), I can't have it any more.

Diet soda is like decaffeinated coffee...what is the point? What makes soda great is the sugar rush.

Might be the carbonic acid dissolving the calcium carbonate the tooth is made of.

Coke or Pepsi? This has been asked since the beginning of, well, soda. I am a Coke girl. Well, Diet Coke. My husband is a Diet Pepsi guy (probably only because I am a Diet Coke girl, because he has always been Coke over Pepsi).

So I am currently out of Diet Coke in the fridge, and he has Diet Pepsi in there (BECAUSE HE NEVER DRINKS IT BECAUSE HE PREFERS COKE - I SWEAR THIS IS A POWER THING WITH HIM). So I begrudgingly took one of his nasty Diet Pepsis, and it tastes like cleaning products. There is a slight taste of soap in there somewhere.

Sorry, rant off.

And no need for anti-soda Nazis to come in and tell me that soda will kill me, because I do not care. I have very few vices - this is one that I will have until the day I die (even if I die from soda intake).

I think both Coke and Pepsi are fine but diet coke is vastly better than diet Pepsi. Recently I have graduated to harder stuff: Diet energy drinks.

Until very recently I was hooked on diet sodas. I went through phases.

Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi. Most recently Great Value Diet Cream Soda from Wal-Mart. Loved it. I needed the feel of the carbonation.

But then I heard the news that for women over 50, drinking two diet sodas a day substantially increased risk of stroke over having less than one soda per week, and I quit, almost cold turkey.

Could Diet Sodas Raise Older Women's Stroke Risk?

I know it's correlation, not necessarily causation. Maybe it's just that higher risk women who go for the diet sodas to begin. But I quit.

My housekeeper does the bulk of my grocery shopping, and I've told her to buy whichever one is "on special" when she goes. RC, Coke, Pepsi, makes no difference to me, with or without the rum or bourbon.

Off-Topic:
FWIW, the grocery store closest to my housekeeper's home is a Weiss. She said she buys Weiss' carbonated beverages because after trying them, she can't tell them from the "brand name" versions. I asked her to bring some by, but for the past couple months, it seems she's forgotten. LOL I guess I'll have to remind her again tomorrow. LOL

She sings that store's praises and thinks me a loon for sending her to Whole Foods and Dean and Deluca, which are pricier and only sell "weird" brands of soft drinks. I don't really care where she buys groceries. I just want the stuff I want. That said, she says Weiss often has "buy 1 get 2 free" on pork tenderloins, chops and roasts and on chicken (not whole chickens, though). She's got a credit card that's my account. I don't know why she doesn't just buy up a passel of that stuff for me when she sees it. I guess I'm gonna have to remind her of that too. LOL

I cannot forbear diet sodas, none of 'em.

I feel exactly the opposite. I never ever drink diet, so that's out. But I can't stand Coke. One sip and I'll be tasting it all day.

BTW, that soda will getcha sooner or later. It may take a hundred years, but sooner or later.

 If I live 100 years, then it's not the soda that'll get me.

Guaranteed, it will be a bar brawl.

Exactly. I make this face every time my husband tries to read me an article that talks about how soda will kill you.

Think we do it because we secretly know they are right but like our damn soda?

I drink a lot of diet soda. I actually prefer the taste of diet soda because regular soda leaves a sugar residue in my mouth I can feel and taste.

My goto soda is Diet Dr. Pepper. If I DO drink regular soda then I prefer regular Coke, but if I have to chose between Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi, I prefer Diet Pepsi. A little weird, I know.

De gustibus non est disputandum, in this case, literally.

Your preferring diet means more "regular" for me. :2dancing:

Damn skippy. I already gave up hookers and blow.

Ain't giving up my Diet Coke.

:lamo

Change the drug and hookers to sluts and you got my response down to a T

Why do I think that if it's you in a bar brawl, it will be the other guy that goes down?

Coke's secret ingredient is nutmeg. No nutmeg in Pepsi. You are not tasting cleaning products, you're tasting cola nut flavors without the nutmeg.

I literally just shared this to my wife's wall.

Oh yes. But it's when he wants me to watch a UFO show or something with him. He's not much of a jokester, my husband. I tell him his sense of humor was surgically removed at birth.

Coca Cola Classic, is there any other kind of soda worth drinking. I think not. The best I think is from of all places the Freestyle machines, The McDonalds fountain, a clean well kept and properly setup fountain using the BIB system, glass bottled Mexican Coke, then cans, then plastic bottles. I made that list in order of preference. Fresher is better, with either the fountain syrups or the bottled or canned. I cant drink diet sodas of any kind because the artificial sweeteners are affected by the carbonic acid in carbonated water, which I can taste to a very minute level. I can drink a coke diluted with one 1/3 coke zero but it HAS to be made with fresh syrup.

I did find a good alternative to Coca Cola that was very similar but had a spicy kick to it called Spicy Kola Nut by Torino but they don't make it anymore that I am aware of.

Sometimes when I want a good spicy kick to the Coca Cola I will use a real cinnamon stick the good stuff with pinch of ground mixed in.

A few questions:
  • Do you Diet Coke preferers think your preference may have to do with the higher caffeine levels?
    Regular Coke -- 9.7 mg/100ml
    Diet Coke --12.8 mg/100ml
    Coke Zero -- 9.6mg/100ml
  • Have any of you tried Coke Zero?
  • Did anyone try that clear Coke, I don't even recall its name. I never tried it....the regular Coke wasn't broke, so I wasn't about to fix it.
  • Has anyone tried Kosher Coke? How's it different?
  • Have any of you globe trotters noticed a difference in either beverage's flavor outside the US? I haven't but then, unless I taste them side by side, I can't tell them apart anyway.
  • Did any of you, perhaps as kids, use Coke to clean a bicycle chain or have tried other "innovative" uses of Coke? I've used it and Pepsi to make barbecue sauce and to marinate/tenderize tough cuts of steak (well worth doing, even on nice cuts due to the caramelization of the sugar).
