ANTI, MI (WXYZ) – A Michigan powerlifter is being hailed as a superhero after his quick actions helped save a man pinned under a rolled-over vehicle.
Ryan Belcher, works out and trains at the gym five days a week. It’s a place he credits for giving him extra strength on a day he needed it the most.
“I just lifted and started pushing the vehicle as hard as I could,” Belcher said.

Belcher isn’t your normal powerlifter.

“What’s weird is it’s easier for me to not know the weight,” he said.

On Thursday afternoon, Belcher heard something outside his workplace.
“I just hear a big smash and, as I look out, a crowd of people are coming and this vehicle is flipped upside down and my first instinct was to just take off out there,” he said.
A crumbled Jeep lay on its roof, and just a few feet away, there was a car with front end damage.

“As I approached the one vehicle in the middle of the lane, she was awfully bloody and I made sure she was OK and she responded with yes I’m OK,'” Belcher said.

Ryan’s attention then turned to the man trapped under the two-ton Jeep, begging for help.
“Half of his torso was outside of the vehicle and the other half was still underneath in the vehicle. I had no other choice. It was either save a man or not believe in myself. So I just reached in did what I had to do,” Belcher said.

According to
Fox News
, Belcher, who is 350 pounds, can squat 950 pounds and deadlift another 800 pounds.

Ok, think about that a minute. He can squat 950 pounds. I know there are a few internet tough guys here but let me see anyone of them even attempt that.

I was about to say "no ****ing way".....but then I googled the world record and it is apparently a squat of 1,268 lbs. I'm amazed the human skeleton can deal with that.

Anyway, good on him.

Also, it is amazing what feats of strength can happen under a strong adrenaline surge.

Adrenaline plays a big role, I remember a news story from a long time ago where a little girl got caught under a car, after the driver realized she started screaming and people called 911, as the little girl was screaming and getting burned under the car one random passerby who looked like he had trouble lifting a sixpack lifted the whole frontend off the ground and another person pulled her out.

The guy from that old news story was the opposite of a body builder, but with enough adrenaline anything is possible, heck that same person any other day could never lift up the front end of a heavy car. also the thing I found wierd about the story was why it took so long for the driver to realize she ran someone over.

There was a guy who would hold up vw beetles over his head, his skull spine etc actually supported the weight, the guy however did suffer spinal compression to the point he got shorter the more times he did it.

There were two others where a man with a heart condition was able to life a 500 pound steel pipe off a kid on who it rolled on , and the 5'4" woman that lifted a car off her husband when the jack slipped (she slipped a vertebra). The man could not even budge the pipe when he tried later.
