Isn't it smarter to use all of those protective measures and still get the shot?...or do you think the government is injecting fluoride into your precious bodily fluids?

I am not rejecting the flu short. I was simply saying that I believe we could have better protection with a different strategy. If the same dollars were used to prevent spread by other means.

You are correct, the choice does not need be binary.

Such as masks, Purell and encouraging sick people to stay home? I completely agree, but I'd still get my shots.

You know, only the USA and Canada encourage the Flu shot for the general populous... just saying.

Other countries just don't see the value as it's so ineffective. Like I said, I got one because it can't hurt. I just don't have much faith in it helping.

Link to it being "ineffective"? More likely it's about money and Germany has paid a price for it: https://www.thelocal.de/20180223/whe...-germany-worst
Some 82,000 cases of flu have been confirmed nationwide this winter and at least 136 people have already died due to the virus. Most of the deaths were of elderly people who had a pre-existing condition.

The Frankfurter Rundschau reports that hospitals in Frankfurt are struggling to cope with the large numbers of new cases. On occasion no hospitals in the city have been able to take in new flu patients, a spokesman for the city health authority told the newspaper.....The World Health Organization complained earlier this month that too few elderly people in Europe are being vaccinated against the flu.

“I urge European countries to increase the rate of vaccination,” Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO regional director said, adding that three out of four elderly people should be given a vaccine.

The current of rate of vaccination among the elderly in most EU countries is between 30 and 40 percent.

This is from last year when the entire globe had a bad year. The southern hemisphere in out summer and then Europe and the USA in the winter.

this year will not be as bad as the southern hemisphere had a very mild year

Big Pharma will buy it's way into other countries as time goes on. Wouldn't you go after the biggest market in the world first too? It's got nothing to do with Europe wanting to not pay. If it was effective it would save cash in the end.

Dude, I know you're a naysayer and believe vaccinations don't work, but it's clearly dated February 2018. That's this year.

I got the shot when I was already apparently incubating a nice illness and I got Pneumonia again. Huzzah! Talk about awful timing.

I'm still going to get one each year because I'm around immuno-compromised people and I do what I can. /shrug.

Did you get a pneumonia immunization? IIRC, they're good for about 5 years.

I doubt the vaccinations are effective against those who are already sick.

The vaccines don't help if you're already sick. You're also not supposed to take them if you are sick. I was sick and didn't know it yet though. There is that window.

I didn't even know pneumonia shots were even a thing until this last time I caught it. Mostly because I hate doctors and hospitals. I have one scheduled now. Thanks for the heads up though. I've had pneumonia 3 times now... it always seems to be just as miserable.
