The best & worst movies you've seen in recent years(old or new)?

No! Jack and Jill or Daddy's Boy (both Adam Sandler). THAT'S the best movie of all time! It's right up there with Ishtar and Gigli!

:doh

Have you ever watched grandmas boy? or better yet watched it while consuming not to be mentioned green stuff? Plus adam sandlers best movie was billy madison followed by water boy.

We have to disagree on Duvall; his range is something. Frank Burns in “MASH!” -to “A Night in Old Mexico, Godfather, Lonesome Dove, Apocolypse Now.

I love Duvall's "Frank Burns" and quote one of his lines all the time. Remember the scene where he's on his knees praying, "Duke" asks him how long the show goes on, and he sanctimoniously replies that it gets longer every day? That line.

Smiling as I think of the scene where "Hawkeye" and "Duke" finally caused him to melt down. "Shut your filthy mouth!"

The missus hates Costner and Cruise; I like Costner from “Silverado” to “Dances With Wolves.”
Cruise was excellent in “Risky Business” , “Top Gun” (Kelly McGillis)!!! “All the Right Moves”

I don’t go to the theatre anymore as there will be someone who cannot leave their phone alone for two hours.

I dunno - there's just something about Duvall that I do not like. I will say that I loved him as Consigliere Tom Hagen in The Godfather. Can't think of a single other movie I've seen him in that I liked.

I have watched Grandma's Boy. It was terrible. I understand toilet humor. I do. One of my favorite movies is Stepbrothers.

I love Billy Madison, and use quotes from that movie from time to time. I agree - I think Billy Madison is his best.

I've never even seen the M.A.S.H. movie. From that clip, it appears to be more of a drama with occasional comedy, whereas the tv show was a comedy with occasional drama. Either way, it's important that we thank Jesus Christ for lending his hand in guiding the comedians, so that their sarcastic criticism of Christianity was funny...... Amen. Lol

I've watched Step Brothers probably 4 times in the past year! I didn't see it for the first time til about a year ago, but it was funny as hell....

Grandma's boy is not toilette humor it is stoner humor, it is far less toilette humor than most of adam sandlers movies or many movies today,.

The latest Mission Impossible was rather engaging and enjoyable. Good entertainment.
I as also pleasantly surprised by Black Panther. Highly recommend that one.

The only Kevin Costner movie that I've never had any desire to see, was the one where he was a body guard for Whitney Houston. I can't remember the name of the 'body guard' related movie off hand, but 'body-guarding' was the central theme. Oh yeah, I think it was called "The Security Guard", or something... Lol. It was just marketed too heavily at the time as a sappy love drama, and it quickly became a fad movie, which turned me off because I avoid fads. Plus, it contained Whitney Houston songs, and I was NEVER a fan of sappy soft rock love songs(like the theme song from Titanic).

As nutty as Tom Cruise is, he can be an enjoyable and interesting actor. Some of his movies wouldn't have been as good with anyone else playing his roles. However, he has more recently starred in some bad movies, such as that horrible mummy movie.

M*A*S*H is a satiric anti-war film and very funny. I'm not a movie buff and don't generally re-watch them much, but I've seen M*A*S*H 21 and a half times. (And read the book on which it's based.) It's a Robert Altman film, and the film quality itself isn't very good. There are a few graphic scenes that are so distracting that you really need to see the movie more than once to catch the dialogue underneath, some of which is hilariously risqué.

Trivia question for those who've seen the movie: How did "Trapper John" get his name? Hint: This is explained during the scene during which "Hawkeye" and he are tossing a football in the mud, but had to read the book to catch the explanation.

Not the new one. The new one is so bad the entire audience was laughing and talking to each other throughout the movie...and no one cared. What a stinkbomb.

we could start a thread about good remakes and bad ones

some good ones are often timeless stories

Errol Flynn's Robinhood-several later films-be it Kevin Costner, Patrick Bergin/Uma Thurman, Russell Crowe and yes Carey Elwes all made good films about that story.

others are just abominations

Planet of the Apes and Rollerball are both brilliant takes on a future world. Both had some of the best actors of the era-Charlton Heston, James Caan, in them. The remakes of those two classics just completely Sucked. Its akin to second string rock acts trying not only to cover a song by a top artist-but trying to cover their tour de force-example, Molly Hatchet trying to redo Duane Allman's masterclass in slide guitar with "Dreams"

Molly Hatchet's "Dreams I'll Never See" was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on guitar(the rhythm parts). Its a very different take on the song than the Allman Bros' version. From that standpoint, and having heard it long before ever hearing the Allmans' version, I think the MH version is a good song. They were actually quite a talented band, and I felt really bad for their main singer, Danny Joe Brown, who suffered from serious health issues as far back as 1979. They had just put out only their 2nd, and most popular album, when Danny was forced to leave for a couple years due to diabetes related issues. He came back in like 1983, and there's a video of them playing live, where he looked and sounded better than ever, and looked super happy. Then he got sick again and spent most of the 90s ill. He died in 2000 I think.

Clearly none of you have any pre-teen girls and have the heart to sit down and watch a movie with them.

All of your "worst" movies are probably Oscar winning motion pictures compared to some of the crap I've watched in the last couple years.

Worst movies I've seen that are notably bad, are Suicide Squad, Justice League, Batman v Superman, Independence Day: Resurgence, White House Down, Slenderman, Truth or Dare, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Predator, The Mummy (2017), Jack and Jill, all of the Transformers movies except the first one, and Twilight (haven't watched any of the rest). I'm sure there's a bunch I'm forgetting but I just can't recall at the moment.

Worst:

It's a Mad Mad Mad World
