DuckDuckGo is a search engine that doesn’t track its users and offers a level of privacy– for free– that hasn’t existed on the Internet because of Google.
Gabriel Weinberg, CEO & Founder at DuckDuckGo gives 10 reasons why DuckDuckGo is a better, safer service for users. Below are five:
DuckDuckGo doesn’t track its users. Google does.

All of a user’s personal information: medical, financial and anything else should be private, but on Google it’s not. On Google, your searches are tracked, mined, and packaged up into a data profile for advertisers to follow you around the Internet.”
Weinberg says, “To keep your searches private and out of data profiles, the government, and other legal requests, you need to use DuckDuckGo. We don’t track you at all, regardless what browsing mode you are in. Each time you search on DuckDuckGo, it’s as if you’ve never been there before.”
DuckDuckGo blocks Google trackers lurking everywhere.
Google tracks users on more than just their search engine. They track everyone on YouTube, Gmail, Chrome, Android, Gmaps, and all the other services they run.
Private alternatives like DuckDuckGo can enable people to live Google-free. Google trackers lurk behind the scenes on 75% of the top million websites. Facebook is the next closest with 25%.

I use it. Have been for a couple of years.

I find it works as well as any other search engine; Bing, Google, whatever.

There aren't any special services though, like "googlemaps," etc.

There aren't any ads, either. It's just search results.

How do you install it? Is it complicated? Do you agree with the article that search results are unbiased? Searching google on positive accomplishments of our President, the bias is glaring.

I was going to comment that the results seemed unbiased to me...but didn't want to raise any "controversy" about the lean of Google, etc. and derail your thread.

It's easy to install, simply go to the duckduckgo site and follow the simple steps.

Duckduckgo does not sell your information, but recently I have noticed them censoring stuff google style, try googling different political subjects and notice between ddg google and yahoo that all three filter out something, either news from certain sources, certain websites,or sometimes both, but often times all 3 are not censoring out the same thing. Like for example all three of those tend to censor out antifa bad news except those that hit national headlines, I tried trump news and only yahoo would actually show it, google and ddg blocked it.

Now try this with nearly anything, you will realize none of them are trustworthy and to get a whole picture you much use all three, I did not include bing because I hate bing, I admit it I am a bingcist!1!1!!!!!

My Windows 10 tries to take me directly to Bing, recently. I have to move the cursor to google. I figure if they want me using it, I will take the paltry effort not to.

What interesting times we live in. Fortune cookie was accurate.

I just tried Trump and Trump news search and I don't see any "censoring." Perhaps you can give more specific examples?

As in trump news, the actual trump news feed trump made, I thought hey let me check this time for a good laugh and the search engines would not bring it up. unless that changed from the last time I searched google will bring up a skit first mocking trump news, then advertise a bunch of msm news outlets.

The new Windows 10 upgrades are the problem. Miscrosoft is trying to force you to use their products and let them control your system.

duckduckgo instructs you on how to bypass and make them your search engine but you have to take a number of steps to get rid of the controls and "products" you want to avoid with Windows 10.

Hell, I had to contact Microsoft online services to get a tech to get rid of Cortana, the Cloud, and some other things I didn't want and they set it up so they don't re-load when upgrades occur.

Instead of loading duckduckgo, I just added it to my Favorites. I can then scroll down and use it that way.

When I use duckduckgo, I use opera browser and just go to their site, makes it pretty simple.

That is the second item on the results list...right behind a "rate president Trump" poll from Newsmax.

They want me to install Chrome, I wont do it. Whatever they want me to, I wont. Next computer will not be Microsoft. They want to sell you a puter, then dictate it's use.

It is my go-to search engine.

Your google wisdom is greater than mine, actually I found it a few minutes ago as well, had to keep trying different combos, while simply typing trump news on yahoo yields that site in the first few pages listed.

Now tell me what you typed to get that result.

What window are you using to search in? When Windows 10 was upgraded several months ago with all their new rules...I found that they had made some changes so that making duckduckgo your main search engine was bypassed after your first search and it used whatever Microsoft's default was.

I had to go through some hoops so that instead of subsequent windows using a different search engine ALL of the searches were done via duckduckgo.

Thanx for the info. I'll try it tomorrow. Gotta go for the night. I'll love it if it's as good as Alta Vista for searches. Google really sucks at finding the more obscure stuff.

Trump News

Got a screenshot of it? I just did trump news in google, as well as trump news network, and trump news website, and found nothing, the only one that yielded it was trump news site.

Edit it finally showed up on page 3 of the search, kinda bad when the exact site with that name is pushed backwards while another search engine puts it towards the front.

HA! I have a fairly expensive smart phone that I rarely use, and can use only a fraction of...the kids are appalled...this tech is wasted on me they say..

One thing I noticed, on google I can type "pics of---" or "meme---" and a search result of images pops up, not so with DDG.

Not that it matters here, format wont support C&P but other forums I post on, do.

I've been using it for years. But beware, both Google and Bing drop tracking bots on browsers that use it, so does Amazon along with a few other commercial companies, and those bots, delivered by cookies, are not detectable by the browsers or addons. They are written in microcode. Nothing on the net is safe for those seeking privacy. Not even incognito pages.

I think block is a strong word. It can be so benign as just giving other search results a higher priority than what Bing, or DDG might give you.
