In the Bay area this week. First time ever for that. Got here yesterday and have been doing the touristy thing ever since.

Any Bay area aficianado's here want to recommend anything that isn't so widely known but a must see?

As far as places to go, it depends what you are into. If you want good asian food, I highly recommend visiting Chinatown, and getting dim sum.

If you like South-East Asian cuisine, and you happen to go a bit further south to San Jose and were thinking of visiting the Winchester Mansion, right across the street on Winchester boulevard is one of the best Thai restaurants, called Krungthai. Highly recommend it.

If you are very much into history, I recommend seeing Fort Point (right under the Golden Gate Bridge). There are a ton of museums of course all around San Francisco, catering to one's tastes regarding art, science, history and culture. I would recommend the San Francisco Opera House except the season does not start back up until September.

Across the bay of course is Oakland/Berkeley. Since you are of a presumably far left-leaning bent, there is the University of California Berkeley campus, which might be fun for you. There are also tons of bookstores, shops and fun restaurants in the college town. The university campus itself is quite gorgeous (except for their hideous brutalist-style law school building, Boalt Hall), and I recommend walking around it to anyone.

All in all, it depends what you are into. If you ever find yourself going down to Los Angeles, I am far more familiar with that neck of the woods. Hope you enjoy yourself.

Thank you felis. We did the china town yesterday only to be treated like **** from an old Chinese lady working the chinese restaurant who apparently cant cook rice. I dont know how she made it this far.

Today we hit the presidio at chrissy park which was awesome. Then did Haight-Ashbury area. Neat ecclectic stuff. Fishemans warf and checked out the seals. Saw little italy but didnt really partake. Shouldve eaten there instead of Chinatown imo.

We are in oakland at the Marina which is nice watching the boats come and go. Currently sitting at the hotel bar watching the golden state warriors game starting up.

Change hotels tomorrow and will be downtown Oakland where the wifes conference is at. Ill be killing time all day waiting for her to get out. If you are in the area... We can grab an afternoon beer if you like or a lunch later this week. Her conference starts Wednesday so tomorrow we have plans to hit napa valley.
