Please explain to me why anyone cares even the slightest about the "royal wedding".

Especially those people who are completely NOT connected to England in any way.

Why is it on my local Philadelphia news every single day for the past month?

Who cares?

Do you care? If so, why?

I'm just glad that there won't be another royal wedding until the children from this crop of royals grow to "mating age".

I actually don't care much at all about weddings, royal or otherwise. I'm now officially sick of the hoopla over the current one.

Then again, I'm a bah-humbug kind of gal.

Why do you care that other people care?

I’m a red blooded American who is a Catholic and believes in Republican government and not Monarchy, I also say if you wish to observe the royal family then more power to you, do what makes you happy

It's that fascination with celebrity thing. I guarantee Meghan Marple could get elected in whatever district she chose, whichever party she chose, in the mid-terms.
Can't happen, obviously, but celebrity carries more votes than education or experience.

I would disagree on that. If She ran for office she would have to take solid political positions and that would carry more weight then celebrity. Celebrity can overcome some difficulties, like name recognition and likability, but it won’t win an election by itself

People enjoy watching the glam of a royal wedding. Plus it's a major political event. The Royal Family still has a lot of power. Most Commonwealth countries are constitutional monarchies... meaning they are independent but technically the Crown could reclaim ruler ship at any time they choose. For example, the Queen technically still rules Canada. Parliament here has been loaned power by her. The Prime Minister can't enter office until he bows before her and she declares him her power in absentia. It's kind of crazy.

William is the future king and his offspring the future rulers of the Commonwealth. The wedding isn't just about pomp, but the rulers of nations.

But yeah... it's annoying how they spam us with it 24/7.

Cheap TV to fill the air waves.

I'll be watching with my mixed race daughter - here in the UK, the mixed race element of the wedding has peaked interest from the minority population of the UK.

Oh it is kinda fun watching these blokes (hey girls call each other dudes now, I can say blokes) keep this whole contraption of a monarchy going in an age that has little use for them.

You know it's been 20 years since William and Harry were forced to walk behind their mother's funeral cortège while two billion people watched on. Harry was only 12 years old. Beyond cruel to expect the boys to do that. What brave boys. I know those images are etched in many peoples minds as they have followed William and Harry growing up and many have wished nothing but the best for them.

I didn't watch it all, but what I did see was heartwarming. Meghan looked beautiful and Harry scrubbed up pretty good too. They are clearly very much in love and it's great to see them so happy. Good for them, I wish them a long and happy life together.

It was a nice event and a good build up to the real event...The FA Cup fina

Who are you tipping Higgins?

I hate Chelsea with a passion however I also hate Jose so.....I'm just hoping for a good game lol.

2-1 United would be my bet.

I'm going the other way, on the Chelsea bandwagon. (For 90 minutes anyway.) If it goes to extra time that's going to test my "loyalty." 90 Minutes of cheering for Chelsea is stretching it as it is

You excited for next Saturday? ( Sunday for you probably)

I'm British. Take it from me the Harry Meghan wedding is not even a minor political event, hence its attraction for many in the UK. And the royal family has no power whatsoever and not much influence even on non-political matters. They 'rule' absolutely nothing. Sure the Queen is Canada's Head of State - and Australia's and New Zealand's - but she has zero say on their government.

To sum up: you have got it absolutely wrong.

Nope, do not get it nor do I want to.

The wedding went heavy on the 'black' theme - and why not? So much for the idiot 'Black Studies' professor from some obscure English university who said a day or two ago that the royals would go all out to prevent Meghan from 'Expressing her Blackness', whatever that's supposed to mean.

Scene stealer or the day: Markle's quietly dignified an impressive mother.

If it's on the TV everywhere then apparently people do care.

That's laughable. Power? Influence? Over the world???? :lamo

The "royal family" has about as much power and influence on the world as the Governor of Delaware has over the UsofA,

Name one thing the Royal Family has done to influence the world in the last 50 years?

They are little more than a puppet-tradition of a long gone past.

I would love to argue your point, but you got me.
...and the presidents we have had for the last 20 years kinda proves your point even more.

I woke up this morning to everyone on Twitter talking about it. Doesn't really entertain me much so I don't care. However, I was thinking ........ what is their last name? And I realized that I had no idea what Prince Charles and Princess Di's last name is/was. Anyone know?

I've always wondered what the queen does all day. Does she have any influence over anything besides her fancy china and servants?
