Royal Wedding? Who F'n Cares????

"The masses"?

This prole watched most of the wedding and has enjoyed all the terrific photos at the Daily Mail since. When there is a TV event I don't want to watch (for example, the Super Bowl), I don't watch it. And ignore the hype.

This is actually pretty easy to do. And it's not so difficult to accept that millions of people do enjoy what you don't care a fig about. ;)

Please explain to me why anyone cares even the slightest about the "royal wedding".

Especially those people who are completely NOT connected to England in any way.

Why is it on my local Philadelphia news every single day for the past month?

Who cares?

Do you care? If so, why?
Why do you care why they care? If they want to get up in the middle of the night to watch the ceremony what harm does it do you?

Ok, so I enjoyed some of the footage from a few days ago, simply because I visited Windsor a few years ago and have some good memories. The wedding doesn't interest me at all.

I thought about watching. But I had a civic project I had to be at.

Saw some highlights. So now my big question is how James Corden rated an invitation to a royal wedding.

I think you need to re-read my post.

There are 53 Commonwealth countries, including Britain and Canada, and the Queen is the Head of State of all of them. Officially, not just figuratively. That's real power.

Don't misunderstand. I don't support the monarchy and I have no interest in their politics. I'm just informing you of the political reality. They still have real world power, it's just never exercised. If British democracy collapsed tomorrow, the Queen would step in and be the next ruler overnight, barring any objections.

Once again you are badly mistaken. The Queen is NOT Head of State of every state in the Commonwealth. Not of India, Pakistan, Nigeria or South Africa , just to mention four very large exceptions. There are 19 African countries in the C'wealth: the Queen is not the H of S of any one of them. Your notion that the Queen can 'step in' and rule is ludicrous. She could not do so even in one of the places where she is H of S, Canada for example.

(I once worked in the Commonwealth Relations Dept. of the - British - Foreign and Commonwealth Office).

False.

I live just outside of Philly. All my local TV stations are from Philly.

There was FAR less Superbowl coverage than Royal wedding coverage.
Far less.

And NASCAR? Please.

You can watch whatever you want. I'm complaining about having utter bullcrap forced down my throat for months.

If you care, you already know about it. Don't force-feed us royal nonsense. They are meaningless to the masses.

One step above the Kartrashians. Maybe two steps.

Change. The. Channel.

The end.

I’ve certainly never seen you start a thread complaining about shows other people might enjoy.

To each his own.

Besides the celebrity factor that fascinates so many people, I think the royalty serves as a tie between a people/nation and their history. But that's about British people. Your Philadelphia news station is doing what they think will make peope watch them. So if nobody cares they guessed wrong.

Change. The. Channel.

The end.

Maybe its a rotary TV set, and its hard to change the channels without getting up from the couch. :2razz:

At last. Some one who finally asks the important question. Change the channels and find out who won the fa finals.

Turns out chelsea beat manchester 1/0 on penalty.

Gospel in the Church of England! That was fabulous

I didn't catch it all but did get a good laugh at the amused and bemused reactions from the Royal Family during the sermon...

~ I didn't watch it all, but what I did see was heartwarming. ~

Pleased to see he invited his two ex girlfriends along and they came. Shows that he treated his partners well and remained on friendly term with them.

~ I enjoyed it because I'm a softy and I love weddings.

Favourite comment from an American commentator yesterday - "you guys know how to put on a wedding."

I thought that was hilarious. The Queen was not amused at a fire and brimstone type minister.

Neither was Camilla. LOL

The whole thing is hysterical, but go to 3:40. I thought of this when I was watching. LOL

Weddings piss me off. I can only make exception for the friends who were thoughtful enough to offer drinks before and after the ceremony.

I definitely wouldn't watch one on TV...

..................Why?

BBC America is showing Wedding highlights all day today until 230am. Literally zero other programming on the schedule. In this age of political correctness you would think the countries that still have the UK monarch as its head of state would retire this symbolism. I keep hoping that the Queen or whoever is the next king will finally push to end it. But Im not British. I only care because nobility is taboo to us americans. We have replaced them with celebrities and politicians, but they actually have to at least earn their position of fame. The obsession with some people who inherited their fame is just red meat to americans.

Good question. Didn't we fight a revolution so we wouldn't have to care about British royalty? I can see where it's a big deal in England, but in America? I suppose it's the allure of celebrity, the fairy tale of the damsel marrying her real life prince, maybe history being made by a mixed race woman who is not English and has been married before becoming a part of the Royal Family.

Or, maybe it's just a more pleasant diversion from the real world of wars, political machinations, dirty deals, and incomprehensible shootings of innocent people

Well I don't care what anybody says. I enjoyed it.

I don't understand why the OP is so snippy about it. I could start the same kind of thread about NASCAR, or the Super Bowl, or Game of Thrones, but I don’t. If you dont like it, dont watch.

Right? Although all the people in my house I forced to watch it didn't get the option to change it. I held them down and made them watch every thing there was about it. :2razz:

I am at the point once i hear about...

Royal Wedding

North Korea

Mueller

I go to NETFLIX and start watching Better Call Saul.

Specific to the Royal Family check out "The Windsors" in NETFLIX. It's the royal family as soap opera. Coarse and silly and very funny.

Sought out highlights on YouTube after it was over.

I hope their love lasts.

Same. And then rewatched it over and over on the news.

I enjoy English humor very much. Thank you, I will do that.
Right now, on NETFLIX, I am watching a very cute sitcom called "Dad's Army".
About a small town on the coast on England that needs to get up and start their own Home Guard unit to oppose the Nazi invasion and paratroopers.
Really cute.

I love that type of humor too. Check out 'Allo 'Allo!' also if you ever have some free time. (Another British sitcom set during WW2 in France.) It's hilarious too.
