Last winter games we took the most medals, all time America comes in at #2, this time 2/3 done we are currently in a four way tie for 6th place.

America is a rapidly failing country, and it is time for us to admit it.

Are there folks who really are watching the Olympics? I stopped paying attention to the Olympics some 30 or more years ago.

Not enough, even counting those who are streaming ratings are down 10% from 4 years ago, which were themselves very disappointing.

Because we are only 6th on medals at the winter Olympics we are failures? I think I've seen and heard you at my kids soccer games.

Love watching it. Have it on in the background every night, check in for the figure skating and the snowboard and skiing freestyle stuff. And I love the ski and snowboard 'crosses.'

I cheer almost everyone on, knowing the commitment and effort all have put in. I also love the views into the culture and food and scenes of the host countries.

Call me Pollyanna if you want but why should I add baggage to something I can just watch and enjoy?

Did you see that speed skating event where the South Korean shot waaaay ahead of everyone else 2 laps until the end? That was fantastic.

I watched a little the first day. What I learned was:

Some gay guy is there. I don't know which sport. They never said.

Kim Jong Fattie has a sister. I think she sat next to Pence or something.

NOKO cheer girls can wave flags.

I haven't watched since.

We finished 5th in 1984, 9th in 1988, 6th in 1992, 5th in 1994 and 5th in 1998. Those must have been the worst 14 years of your life

Irony, because the view was that we had peaked in Souchi and many of us didn't expect much this year. Women's hockey we own but I will be surprised if Canada wins gold in Men's hockey. All our best juniors are in the NHL in this crop

I saw the 1500 meter race----maybe the same one you're referencing--- where the winner blew everyone away at the end.
The race was 13 1/2 laps on a really tiny---110 meteror so---oval.
I thought the race was run on such a small track because of a lack of available larger venues.
But last night I saw the 500 meter race run on an oval of around 250 meters.
Seemed weird to conduct the longer race on shorter track.:shrug:

EDIT: Oh, yeah...thread topic....US women finished 5th 6th and 7th....sad.

From when I first started watching as a kid, the Olympics has added a bunch of what I call ridicules events. Most of which I have no interests at all. About the only thing in the Winter games that interested me was basketball. Ice Skating, Snow boarding, Ski Jumping, none of that interested me. Could be we don't get much snow and ice down here. It's like hockey, I just plain don't understand it.

Then again I always been a baseball, football, college basketball fan along with hunting and fishing and of course NASCAR. I don't remember if basketball is winter or summer games anymore.

I kind of, er, became ah, busy, that's it, I was really , really busy.

I can't stand figure skating. It is not a sport any more than a tango is, but i have to keep that to myself, and the fact I hate curling as well.

Now if they had beaver hunting...

I never realized they were on until I saw this thread. I had seen advertisements about the Olympics coming. But I never paid any attention to them. Spring Training begins in a couple of weeks and that I am interested in.

Such good figure skaters. Good chance for another gold tonight in the ice dancing.
 
You would think with all the gay athletes we have now that we would gold medal in curling.Or at least in shampoo and blow drying.
