Please, please....this is not meant as a free for all fight thread!

With the recent threads I've been reading I guess I've been thinking alot about this. It might seem far fetched at first, but think about for a minute before trashing the idea. Thanks.

What do you think a social experiment would show, if you had a bunch of kids of different races that are brought up together without any outside influence on race? No history of racial tensions, no history of slavery of a specific race or color, no biased views from politics, religion, etc. The word racism, bigotry, stereotype doesn't exist.
In this hypothetical experiment, would these kids grow up with any racist tendencies or thoughts? I don't think so, and I don't think they would inherently recognize there is a different race. Just that they look different.

If you think, like I do, that this hypothetical group would grow up and not even have racism in their lives, why don't we fight current racism like this. What I mean by that, is instead of constantly pointing out and reminding the new generations of past misdeeds, instead ignore the differences, because they don't matter?

I'm not a scholar, so I'm sure I'm not putting all this in the right words, but I think you get my drift. If we attacked racism that way going forward, could future generations eventually produce a generation that doesn't even know that racism is a word?

Edit: I started thinking about it because of something my daughter said. She lives in NYC, and I don't remember what we were talking about specifically, but it had to do with something concerning racism that she saw.
Her statement "Honestly Mom, I didn't even consider what race they were until someone brought it up". Meaning she wasn't coming at the situation with "racism" as a thought, it was just a disagreement between two 'people'.

We are race obsessed, disastrously so, because we tend to be self absorbed self indulgent and generally ignorant...... and I am talking about the so-called geniuses too.

This is what Victim Culture birthed.

Do you think we could change it if we went about it like the example? I edited after I posted to include what my daughter had said, and it made a lot of sense. She wasn't brought up even thinking about racism in any way, she has a huge heart and lots of compassion for people, so it doesn't really enter her thoughts until others point it out or draw attention to it.

I think that the way we stop being disastrously hyper sensitive to race is to decide to not be disastrously hyper sensitive to race, and then to get good enough at controlling ourselves that we stop being disastrously hyper sensitive to race.

But see, there is so little interest in that, in being better.

I think that's an amazing idea, and I also think it will take something along these lines to eventually rid us of racial discord.

Probably wouldn't work, I mean kids these days are so un-accepting ...:2razz:

It would work. Only with the truly racist people do young kids even know about racism. I never even brought up race to my kids until they asked me about it due to something that they learned in school.

In this day and age your suggestion might work. It definitely wouldn't have in past centuries though due to people not being near as educated as we are today. The only problem that I have with it is that it would require not teaching history. Being a big supporter of everyone having a right to all available knowledge that goes against my grain. Big time. As such I'm not sure I could support it...even if it lead to a non-racist future faster than conventional means. I do believe that we will eventually conquer racist ideology. We just have to go about it the right way.

Sooner or later these kids would start noticing each others skin color and start comparing. Someone may say my skin is clean, yours is dirty and yes it has happened in a city school which I will not name. You or anyone may not agree but situations innocently happened

Of course they would notice differences. They would notice if someone has big ears, or a big nose, or red hair, or is skinny, or is tall. I doubt if they would associate skin color with cleanliness. Although I do seem to remember my freckles being compared to fly sh??.

Racism will never end. And frankly, who gives a crap! Clear your brain slate and think about this: If somebody doesn't like some other race, why should I let that bother me? Does it effect my life? Nope. Does it effect the lives of the people they do not like? Nope.

Millions of blacks vehemently hate white people. That's a stone cold fact. I am white. Does their racism effect me? Nope. Do I care? Nope. I don't give a rat's arse if someone hates white people or not. I live my life they same regardless of what other people think.

This whole racism song and dance is a whole lot of nothing. Let people like and dislike who they want and just go live your life for God's sake. You cannot control people so don't even try.

The important think is that legal racism like the old segregation laws are long gone. That is all government can do.

I will say this though: Racism is perpetuated in large part by people crying about racism. That is also a fact. I grew up in California in a military family and there was no hint of racism there orin my upbringing. But over the years, I have heard so much bitching, whining, and complaining from blacks, so much of blacks hating whites and blaming whites for their own problems, I have LEARNED to dislike blacks and I learned it FROM blacks. I'm not racist against them but I have learned from them to really dislike them. In the 21st century racism against black is in large part CAUSED by blacks. Asians don't do that crap, neither do Hispanics. They don't snivel and bitch and whine like blacks do. If I were a REAL racist I would dislike them too, but I don't. The best things blacks could do about racism is shut the hell up.

Yes, that is a drawback I thought of. I even thought of editing history only inasmuch as just leaving out mention of color or race, but I don't think that would be accepted.

Yes, but if the explanation is just "people just look different"? Too simplistic I guess.

Yeah, its too big of a drawback for me really. If we start editing out history, even to the little bit like you suggest here...what is going to be edited out next?

Once something is done once people often have a tendency to do it again. And again. While that is ok for good stuff...its really bad for bad stuff.

Good post !

If you don't believe this the huge denial B0t has been enabled.
So many good points and honesty.
There's no argument here. No use pointing out evry line of TrumpPence2020's post. Everything he said is bottom lined.

You would care more if you were black.

Listen, I get what you are saying, but your using such a broad brush. Not all blacks are like that. I think you know that. ALL people should just shut up about it. Whites are just as much to blame with guilting others as if everything wrong happened yesterday instead of years ago.

If we could, as a collective, just let it all go and stop looking for racist meanings behind everything, it would stop.

For instance, there's another thread about H&M store about an ad with a black child in a sweatshirt with something like 'the coolest monkey in the jungle' . Now what if whoever came up with the idea, remembering other kids in different sweatshirts with different animals, coolest giraffe in the jungle, never even associated monkey as a slur because they weren't bright up that way and never had an influence about it. Young people obviously. Now the outrage is calling all the attention to it.

If people could just take it from the where it was coming from, a simple ad from a young ad exec. that didn't think in a racist way. I don't know if that's the case, but what if it was? I bet it was a white person that 'raised the alarm'

Not really. It comes off as just accepting the way things are because it doesn't affect me.

But thats my whole point: I would NOT care. Blacks hate whites and I don't care, it does not effect my life. And if I were black and people hated blacks I still would not care and it still would not affect my life.

That is a good point. Men and women like Alan West or Condoleezza Rice are great and I don't even see them as black. Unfortunately folks like them are in the extreme minority in the black community.

You are also right the white liberals perpetuate the issue too, and I despise them just as much. Its a real shame that people just can't let all this go. If they did maybe racism really would start to fade away.

Possibly. I've grown up around different races my entire life, so race isn't an issue for me. Race is about as important to me as hair color, meaning not at all.

I grew up in a very heavy African American and latino neighborhoods. There were times I was the only white kid in class. We used to tell all sorts of racist jokes and banter among each other. no one was offended and it was just part of growing up. I think I was 10 before I started realizing there were people who seriously took racism seriously.

I'm sure I have known what facts are long before your were born. Those things I stated as facts ARE facts.
Thanks for ignoring the substance of the post though.

It must be awfully fun to pretend what you stated "ARE facts" and that there was actual substance.

Are you kidding me? Your position is that racism will never end and folks subjected to it should just shut up and accept it. Of course, you are not racist because you just don't like them.
