The last one made it's last flight.
Boeing 747 retirement: Farewell to '''Queen of the Skies''' | CNN Travel

Pity. I still remember marveling over the new big jets as a kid. My first model airplane was a Pan Am 747. That must have been right around 1970.

Love the old 747.

One of my fondest memories, forget which airline it was, maybe British Airways, but I'll never forget once being able to sit in the... Upstairs part, it was at the time at that age, quite magical.

When I lived down close to the airport, I was always nervous watching those things take off. They just don't look like they should be able to fly.

Have you seen an A380?

Saw one recently in the UK, **** me sideways that one taking off is a sight to behold.

BA used to be the industry standard. They are all a little better than Trailways/Greyhound now. Maybe not better, faster...

I still remember seeing a crowd gathered at a terminal window in some concourse while waiting on a flight. I asked someone what was going on? She said, "747 taking off."

Of course, I looked too.

The last one did not make its last flight. The last passenger 747 owned by an american carrier made its last flight.

Still a lot out there, but they are dying off. 4 engines eat up too much fuel.

I've done many 747 flights, on 100, 200, 300, 300 Combi, SP and 400 series on a ton of airlines. Great plane, they are still making the 747-8, but it works better for cargo, but there are a few carriers flying pax in them.

For Christmas, my GF bought me a nice model of a South African 747 SP in the old colors...the only SP I ever flew on, what a great plane....only 45 of them were made.

I flew with them a few years ago, they weren't too bad.

Air Canada is a bad one, hate flying with them.

ANA, now there's an airline, amazing service, just top notch.

Almost all the American Airlines are ****ing awful, I had a US Airways guy throw my bag against the wall right in front of me because I didn't get what he was saying.

I have fond memories of South African Airways back in the day.

Virgin Atlantic though... Wooh man, back in the day, Bacon Sandwiches and Nintendo all the way :2razz:

Good point.

Virgin Atlantic business class lounge @ Logan is in the bowels of the facility. But you could be excused for thinking that you had died and gone to heaven. Even European lounges cannot compete!!

Yeah I'm a long way from getting into Airline Lounges again :(

But yeah Virgin had amazing ones, saw a few around the world back in the day.

Those were the dogs bollocks in my memory.

Even the one in OR Tambo was fricking incredible

I've flown the 747 on: America West Airlines (who I worked for!), TWA, Air New Zealand, China Air, EVA, Qantas, Thai, Continental, Northwest, KLM, South African, Virgin, Lufthansa, Garuda Indonesian.

I still haven't flown the A380 or A350 or 787 yet...grrrrr

The Virgin one at London Heathrow is nuts.

I flew business on Qatar Airways last week (A350) and the business class lounge in Doha is fricking amazing, and they even have a first class lounge which is meant to be even better. I'd like to get into one of the middle eastern airlines first class lounges one day. For now, priority pass lounges will have to do - they're usually nothing special but at leas you get free food and beer!

Many of the lounges we have been in they pour the drinks for you and the quality is low level. Want average booze, gonna cost you more than at your neighborhood haunt. VA, top quality selection and you have bottle access and the sandwiches are quality made to order.

Damn, that's disappointing. I always wanted to fly on one and never got the chance.
