I am going to be home for the next 2 weeks, most of it in bed. I have been diagnosed with the ****ing mumps. I have learned an important lesson. MMR vaccinations don't give you 100 percent protection, but somewhere between 68 and 90 percent. I had both doses of the MMR vaccine when I was a kid, and turns out that I still got the mumps. All I can do is live with it for the next 16 days or so, and I will be contagious for the first 7 or 8 days. This really sucks, as I was looking forward to playing New Years Eve. I only have it on one side right now, and the doctor said that, because of the vaccinations I had as a kid, it will probably be milder than most cases, and may just stay on one side. Still, I am homebound for the next couple of weeks, which really sucks, because I was planning a lot of stuff during the holidays. The only bright side is that my one week of vacation from work will now be two weeks. I now don't get to play for the Charlie Parker Band New Years Eve, but I have just smoked a joint, and had 3 huge shots of Jack Daniels. Time for bed....Again. When dealing with the mumps, numb is better than anything else.

Merry freaking Christmas. LOL.

Ugh, Dana, I feel your pain. I got chickenpox 2 years before the vaccine came out, then got shingles for Christmas 20 years later. Goddamn diseases, man.

Anyway, rest up, take care of yourself, and cheers! Merry Christmas.

Merry freaking Christmas back at cha & don't stop the meds aka the joint & the JD

Keep your immunizations up to date- Many forget that tetanus is only good for 10 years.
MMR only good for so long.

Bummer there Dan. Take plenty rest, and well soon. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

That totally blows.

Stay hydrated, cause the next few days you are going to feel like a bucket of hammered horse sh*t.

Happy Holidays.

Is there a good time to have mumps?

Yea, there is. It's not when I can make a ton of money playing for a known band on New Years Eve. LOL. Edison Freeman, the guy I played the last 5 years for, before he retired, is going to handle it for me. He's great too. Toured on bass with Stan West, and was the mentor of Randy Rice, who played for Eric Burdon, and then him, until I took his place. He's my mentor too. Turned me from a weekend warrior into a bass player. LOL. He rocks, and he saved my bacon. Looks like he's out of retirement. As soon as I get over this, I'm going to nag the crap out of him to restart the band. LOL.

Bummer. Happy New Year anyway!

I am in Germany. Christmas here sucks.

My flatmate and my neighbor brought me their leftover food because they realized that I was spend my Christmas alone, so they wanted me to have more food to eat alone. According to them, Christmas is about have more varieties of food to eat.

Later on my neighbor said she would pay me a visit, but when she came she went to my flatmate room and both spend their time together while I was left eating their leftover food alone in the kitchen.

Hearing their excited talking and looking at their leftover food I felt miserable and had a mental breakdown, so I left home and went for a walk, hoping it would me feel less ignored and excluded. 3h later, at half past midnight today, I arrive from my long walk and I saw that my neighbor and flatmate took the leftover food that was supposed to be for me.

Deep depressed my flatmate look at me and say "you look so calm". Oh the German comprehensible touch.

I miss so much the welcoming, friendly, companion and compassion of those which Germans call as "fake people".

That was ****ty of them. Don't let rude people get you down. They are jerks.

Did you move to Germany? Or just there for a little while. Christmas alone can get depressing, been there and done that, so that walk was a good idea. Keeping busy helps :)

I moved to Germany 5 years ago and I am trying to move out as soon as I get enough money to try a new life somewhere else. Otherwise, in the future, I will be one of those isolated elders who talk out laud to themselves, living rough from Job Center money and eventually killing myself.

Don't say that! Move for sure. Be determined and make that you're sole goal for now. You're inner attitude does much to how you feel and react. Try and keep positive and know that everyone goes through rough patches, but with determination and a positive attitude, you can do it!

Still sick, but not as sick as I was. I'm no longer contagious, so went to the liquor store to pick up more whiskey, then hit the grocery store. Just that little bit completely wore me out. Got home, and immediately went to sleep for another 4 hours. I should have stayed home. Damn, I miss going to work. I have cabin fever, and at least another week before the mumps goes away. More shots of Jack Black, then back to bed. Highlight of my week was Edison Freeman setting up a Facebook video feed at the New Year's gig I was supposed to play, and me getting to watch him play my gig. Charlie Parker rocked the house, and Edison didn't disappoint me at all. He held up his end on bass as well. I sent him a message thanking him for saving my bacon. Wish it was me there, but this was the next best thing. LOL.

Merry Orthodox Christmas!

Ukraine celebrates Christmas twice - the Western Christian Christmas Day (Julian calendar) on 25 December, and the Eastern Orthodox Christmas Day (Gregorian calendar) on 7 January.

Many countries in Central/Eastern Europe and Russia have a large (majority) Orthodox Christian population.

This is the 5th Christmas Ukraine will be at war with Russian forces in far southeastern Ukraine.
