Did I miss something? Was Johnny Depp called out for being a sexual predator or something? Not that that would be surprising.......

When Johnny Depp was cast as Grindelwald, I thought he’d be wonderful in the role. However, around the time of filming his cameo in the first movie, stories had appeared in the press that deeply concerned me and everyone most closely involved in the franchise.
Harry Potter fans had legitimate questions and concerns about our choice to continue with Johnny Depp in the role. As David Yates, long-time Potter director, has already said, we naturally considered the possibility of recasting. I understand why some have been confused and angry about why that didn’t happen.
The huge, mutually supportive community that has grown up around Harry Potter is one of the greatest joys of my life. For me personally, the inability to speak openly to fans about this issue has been difficult, frustrating and at times painful. However, the agreements that have been put in place to protect the privacy of two people, both of whom have expressed a desire to get on with their lives, must be respected. Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.
I’ve loved writing the first two screenplays and I can’t wait for fans to see ‘The Crimes of Grindelwald’. I accept that there will be those who are not satisfied with our choice of actor in the title role. However, conscience isn’t governable by committee. Within the fictional world and outside it, we all have to do what we believe to be the right thing.

He beats his women.

Johnny Depp is a genuine creep who spent years abusing his now ex wife, Amber Heard. As much as I enjoyed his movies, his time in the limelight should be over.

You might want to tone down the tabloid slander started by Amber's matrimonial attorneys. The judge who sat on the case, reduced the negotiated settlement she received by 80%. And she reduced Amber's attorney fees by 90%.

He couldn't have abused her for years, they were married for less than 2 years, separated after 13-14 months.

She tried the same nonsense with Elon Musk, and they weren't married, just dated for a couple of months.

I suggest you stop trusting those supermarket tabloids.

I remember when those tabloids accused Richard Widmark of beating his wife, Jean Hazlewood. The were married 55 years until she passed of dementia. Even at the end she called him "My kind sweet man."

I am so sick and tired of the endless whining about actors. Their job is to act. It is not to be a role model. So long as they do a good job acting, I couldn't care less what they do in their real lives. This is just so stupid, but Rowling is an asshole liberal, so what do you expect?

I did hear about that, but I'm confused about Rowling's cryptic line about two people wanting to get on with their lives and protecting their privacy.

Additionally, like Trump or hate Trump, I seem to remember Depp pretty much uniformly getting castigated for his joke overseas asking "“When was the last time an actor assassinated a president? I want to clarify, I am not an actor. I lie for a living. However, it has been a while and maybe it is time”.

I couldn't find much on that, except his ex-wife, Amber Heard, (They were only married for about 14 months) claimed during the divorce that he was abusive, his lawyer claimed it was a ruse to claim a larger financial settlement, all this happened more than a year ago, and I haven't heard anything since.

Just recently Depp sued his ex-lawyer and others for a whopping sum, claiming that they stole money from him. If there's any other dirt on the guy, I'm not willing to dig deeper than a quick Google to find it, though.

P.S. Not a big Depp fan, actually. He is as creepy, imo, as the characters he chooses to play in movies. *shudder*
