How Was Your Thanksgiving?

Of course "civilization" exists in Texas; Ethiopia somehow manages to have a stable government, and those guys are home to a literal lake of lava in the middle of one of the world's hottest deserts.

Yup. And people say Texas is hot.

We had a wonderful time. Went out to meet friends at a Chinese buffet and were surprised how many others go out for dinner, instead of making a mess in their own kitchen. We each picked up the tab for a veteran.(we told the waiter to keep it secret) Overall, it was a very friendly atmosphere. People were much more outgoing and talkative than usual.

Ethiopia is a legitimately fascinating nation, with a biblical tradition dating back about 2,000 years, the world's only lava lake, and a medal for never being colonized by Europe - in fact, Ethiopia utterly decimated the Italians in 1896, and ended the Italian dream of colonizing Africa. What badasses.

pretty good. had lunch with my wife's family, and dinner with my parents. walked to both to burn off some of the calories, and listened to Murder on the Orient Express. we both have today off, as well. it's great to have some low stress time with family.

Keep up the walking. A group of us at the office head into the ample warehouse and walk during both of the days's breaks. I have shed 17 pounds so far.

great work!

i lost 100 pounds in 2005, gained about 20 pounds back, and then decided to do it the smart way : food diary and exercise. walking is my favorite exercise, so i do it as much as possible. it has helped me to maintain my weight range for a decade.

Greetings, Lovebug. :2wave:

What a caring thoughtful thing to do, secretly picking up the tab for a veteran! *BIG HUG*

Not only is walking my favorite exercise.....as a nearly 64 year old, I have arthritis in both hips, one knee and one shoulder. Since I started the walking, my symptoms are fairly rare. Walking is more effective then any medication I have taken for arthritis. Not taking any meds for it now.

i'm 43, and that's definitely encouraging. i loved walking as a teenager, and then i noticed that older professors at the college that i worked at walked around campus all of the time and were in great shape even into their late 60s. i was like, "ok. that sounds good." got an MP3 phone, then an iPod, then a smart phone, and discovered podcasts and audiobooks. i plan to do it for as long as i can walk. so far, so good. i'm finding that the more you do something, the more you can do it (repetitive motion injuries aside.)

also, i really like my fitbit. great advancement for the pedometer. mine also measures my heart rate in a crude way to let me know that i'm slowing my rot through activity. huzzah!

It was fine. Thanksgiving used to suck, back when we had to drive 2 hours each way, but now, it's just a very small family gathering with 6 of us. The food is better, the company is better, I don't have to put up with people I absolutely hate. And it's 10 minutes away. Win on all sides.

Yes...there is always a good smart phone app that you can download that will keep track of your distance, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. As for the heart rate, you may want to consider a fitness watch that checks your pulse at intervals or whenever you push the heart image.

My Thanksgiving was was floating-on-air-still fantastically fantastic.

One of the best, ever.

Very nice. Family, food, and football.

The family and food were terrific. The football, not so much. NFL quality is really slipping.

My Black Friday was spent productively. First I spent a few hours talking with my wife, while I ran my laundry. Then I walked the dogs for two hours before washing and vacuuming both cars. When I got back from that, I racked the leaves out of our driveway and ate a bunch of leftovers, That was it--five minutes after eating, I crashed and then took a nap from 5 to 7.

mine has the little green light that measures pulse. resting heart rate seems to match pretty well with my figures from the doctor's office. brisk walking heart rate is a little north of 100, which seems about right.

Mine was great. My daughter and her family moved down here, and we got to spend Thanksgiving together. It was a lot of fun. Plus, I had all the kids peeking into my office, trying to find their wrapped presents. We had to put the wrapped presents in there until the tree was put up, and they spent half the day in there. Funny thing was, their presents weren't even in there. We got them all bikes and they were hidden in the garage.

Oh, and my Thanksgiving Day bonus? Because I cooked for three days, everybody else cleaned up. SCORE!

Believe it or not, civilization exists over here.

Not everyplace though. The bigger cities, but places south of San mar cos have some deficiencies

We made a point of not eating too much this weekend. Still ate too much this weekend. Although, not really in volume, just in mass. For some reason TG food is too damned rich.

I had a great Thanksgiving. My girlfriend and I were pretty much just jumping back and forth between each other’s house for most of the day, helping out with stuff. I got to know some of my girlfriend's relatives that I’ve never actually met before, so that was nice (albeit kinda awkward at first). At my house, I mostly helped my dad out with the turkey. He bought a new smoker recently, so he was happy he got to use it. I’m so glad my aunt was able to come, because she lost pretty much everything from Harvey. But we all had a good time. Nice to catch up with the fam. And I had quite the appetite, too; I was stuffing my face with so much food.

I’ve still got a few more days until we both have to go back, so we're trying to make the most of our time together. My gf and I are gonna go to a rave later on tonight. Whoo!

How about you? How did your Thanksgiving go?

Great. My divorced parents each had their Thanksgiving dinner at the same time forcing me to choose who I love more and this year I went with my mom. lol But for real I switch every year then get together with the other one the next day for dinner. Then went to my in-laws to eat and had my SIL's convince me to go shopping half the night which actually wasn't too bad and I got some great deals.

Great, it was in the high 80's here, went bike riding, then on Friday, drove down to Mexico for 2 fun days on the beach. Drive back sucked, border crossing wait was over 90 min....

We had a great day. My BIL and his family were here. We ate too much, drank too much, and had a great time.

What's a rave?

A rave is a dance party where they play electronic music and ****. It was loud, it was crowded, and so many people were smoking. But it was a damned good time.

I danced my ass off.

Turkey was too plump and tasted like Russian prostitutes. Although my compliments goes to the chef who is carving up this turkey brilliantly.
