Only people I know who actually do this are old. Old as in my MIL's age. :2razz:

I watch my daughters(in their 20's) or my 17 YO niece text on their phones and they type faster than I can talk using the voice to text.

Funny thing is though watching them type on a computer keyboard, they haven't a clue. Hunt and peck.

It's weird.

Ask them about videotapes, typewriters and pagers.

This is why I'm so glad I actually tried in computer lab in grade school. I know how to type, and I know how to text.

No. Oddly enough, my mom uses it, though. And a few of my friends use it. My wife tries to use it but her accent throws it off.

But I won't use it. I don't even like using the voice prompts when I call a company and get a computer operator. It makes me feel...silly.

My kids are kids of baby boomers so they do know about VCR's and pagers. A couple even like Led Zeppelin and Queen. They had NO CHOICE!! ;)

But yeah if I go too far back and tell them about black and white TV's, and TV's without remote controls...Or typewriters then they look at me like I'm from Mars.

Nope, but then again I don't text all that much, maybe a couple of times a day at best. If I want to talk to someone, I call them.

Coupelk of times a day isnt much? I text a couple of times a week

Considering my daughter used to text over 1000 a month, nope. Compared to people who can't put their fool phones down without going into convulsions, nope. The only times I use it is when I have to ask my wife a quick question at work and I don't want to bother her with a phone call.

I saw a friend (she is elder by the way) voicing text and it looks very slow. I write faster so prefer writing. But I never tried voice text myself.

Two things my dad taught me when I was young, how to fetch him a beer and how to stand by the TV and change the channels till something was on that he liked. Thank god there were only 3 channels.

I almost never text my wife, she texts me occasionally to say when she will be home, but I never see the text til after she is home anyway  Mostly I text my kids to remind them about appointments or my tenants about rent, but that is once a month

Voted no but I should.

I *do not* text and drive.

Back in the day, we had to walk 8 feet across the room in 6 inches of shag carpet to change the channel!

I don't know how we survived. lol

Funny story. In the 60's my father as a side job fixed radios and TV's. Someone brought him a TV to fix, with a REMOTE. Very rare back then, but there was a few. The remotes then used sound which activated a motor behind the tuner to physically turn the channel dial. Funny thing was the remote emitted a high pitch can't be heard by humans sound. But our cat sure heard it.LOL... Everytime he pushed the remote the cat jumped.

(Just taking a wild-assed guess that many of our older posters (of which I am one) may not even know it’s available with ease. Just select the microphone on your pop-up keyboard. You need to add the punctuation verbally as you dictate.)

All of my friend’s are active testers. I USED TO HATE THAT until I began using the voice option. My keyboard is too small for my little fingers... autofill made me nuts. Now I use texting all the time with ease by dictating my entries.

You?

'had always wanted a v2t system.
I bought a number of dictation programs over time snd was always frustrated beyond belief. So thank you for mentioning it now. I will try it out. Which phone do you use?

I use an Android LG4, I think is the number. But definitely an LG. I didn’t even know you could BUY a dictation program. I just use the microphone on the pop up keyboard. Good luck! I find it very convenient.

I've always viewed texting as being analogous to pushing your car all the way to work, when you could have just driven it. Lol

That's because, if you already have a phone in your hand, and you can simply press a few buttons to use your phone AS A PHONE and call the person, then why go through all the extra unnecessary hassle just to communicate? I can be much more clear, concise and accurate, in a MUCH shorter period of time by simply calling the person and talking with them.

I view texting as just another way that we are becoming less connected, and more distant to other people. Besides, it takes longer, AND you have to proof read your text before sending it, because let's face it, spell check on most devices is unreliable, inaccurate in many ways, and just generally terrible! Every time I type a sentence, the awful spell check will replace properly spelled words with other words that don't even fit or belong in the sentence! Or it will even replace proper words with non-existent 'words'.

I was typing a YouTube post this morning, where I was defending Jews from some idiot who was claiming that there's a big, all powerful Jewish mafia, or some-such nonsense. I mentioned that, aside from a few Jewish mobsters like Meyer Lansky, there has never been a huge Jewish mafia(compared with Italian, Russian, Irish and Latino gangs).

So in talking about mafia history, I used the term 'mobsters' in the post a few times. My spell check replaced every single example of the word mobster with "monster", so I had to go back and change all of them.

So no, I don't do much texting. That took a lot longer to explain than I thought it would! Lol

Believe me, I thought the exact same way you do. I don’t anymore. It’s not for holding conversations. At least I don’t use it as such. Example:

Text might read. Running 10 minutes late.

Call might be, Me: Hi, Susie. Traffic’s heavy. I’m running a little late. See you in about ten minutes. Susie says, OK, take your time. I just got here. They’re not crowded, so I got our favorite booth.Great. See ya’ in a few.

Or....

Text might read, Thank you so much for dinner! It was delicious! See you Monday.

Call might be, Me: Hi, Susie. Sure had a great time. Thanks so much for having me. Her: Oh, it was our pleasure. Did you like that new recipe for the mashed potatoes? Me:Delicious! And your pie was out of this world. Susie: That was the first time I’ve made it. Turned out pretty good. Me: Well, just wanted to thank you for a great day. I know you’re beat, so I’ll let you go. Susie: Okay, yeah, I’m not even going to clean up. I’m bushed. Me: I’ll see you next week, Susie. You’re the best!

Or this morning, the ten or fifteen texts I sent to friends and family...”Hope you have a terrific day! happy Thanksgiving! Love you.”

And really? The main reason I EVER started texting was because all my friends were texting to ME. But I get your reasoning.
